Excuses, excuses. Whereas the fact is that, for Europe's richest city to be serviced by western Europe's most primitive, outdated rail system shames everyone involved. Step on a train abroad and it's like stepping forward 50 years compared to the shit we get to use here.

Oi! WE have western europe's most primitive outdated rail system, I'll have you know

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Its no real surprise that people dont want to go on trains, you get hassled to death by jobsworths checking your tickets who ALWAYS without fail, get off in the middle of nowhere when they see a gang of kids who are blatently fare jumping.

Its so predictable that its become pointless having them if they are unwilling to tackle anyone without a gold card.

At Farringdon where I get off a lot two of the sad fuckers were trying to extract a penalty fine from some bloke whose yearly card had expired the day before and was offering to go to the ticket office and stump up £2000 in front of them, but still they were harassing him for the penalty, it was only when a load of us got involved and it started getting nasty that they backed down.

These people are are worse than the vermin who are dodging the fares in the first place.

It does'nt help with pikey's keep nicking cables from the railway lines either!

Just bury the damn things in properly locked ducts.

Oh, wait, that'd mean there'd be line works that might justify the installation of a proper train protection system, or even an antique one like CAWS thats prevented an in-running train crash since, erm, the 1960s and any crashes at all since 1980 on the Irish Rail network.

I, unlike most commuters, don't blame the people at the coalface for this - years of underinvestment is hardly their fault. But I've also not seen or heard much to suggest that a shit, old-fashionedly British approach unchanged from the 1970s to customer service from rail staff hardly helps. Why do empty trains turn up late from a depot every day, as above? Why can no-one be arsed to find out if a 25 year old train actually works or not before it's full of people?

Could'nt agree more to be honest there's been a lack of investment for too many years, but as in any job you can only use the system thats put in front of you!

You mean like the TPWS that we have in place?

No, ATP. TPWS can, and is, overridden.

As with all so called investment TPWS was the cheapest option so thats what they went with. Yeah it can be overridden and at times has to be but it's what they gave us so thats what we're stuck with.

I thought ATP was partially deployed already though?

CAWS here can be overridden but only after its already stopped the train. Can be a fun stop-start journey when its not a very good driver :jester:

ATP is on the heavier-used lines, though.

TPWS is a good enough system just a right pain for us when it does get activated on a train. I never did like form filling at the best of times and thats just added to it.

I find FCC are far worse than Southern.

Their trains seem to have managed to be WORSE since they were "refurbished" in the late '90s, they make this really annoying noise which sounds like something is banging on the roof and something is ALWAYS wrong at Kings Cross Thameslink, which is a shit station on a shit street.

I haven't had that bad luck on Southern though.
