I can see Mr Kayal starting the season on a much-improved 3 year contract with the Albion and hopefully the board are working away behind the scenes to achieve this.

Despite all the gloom so far this week ( and it's only Monday ) I still fully expect Kayal to be signed up to an extended contract.

Stephens could well stay as well.

Lose 1 and we can probably cover that with decent recruitment.

Start looking for replacements for both of them and we are in deep trouble.

Why dont the club say anything at least it would show their intent to keep players.

Hughton from a few weeks ago about Dunk and others.
via: http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14591500.Albion_ready_to_fight_to_keep_top_assets/
"You always have to expect and accept that if players have done well then there might be some interest and you have to be able to deal with it.
"There has been some interest in him (Dunk) but the message is we want to keep our best players. That would certainly be the case with Dunk.
"We are not thinking of selling any players. That's not what we want to do. The statement from the club is the right thing, he is not for sale.
"You have to accept he might not be the only one and there might be more interest in him."

So far this pre-season its been reported we've turned down a big bid for Dunk and 2 bids for Stephens.

Seemed to remember this happening with Liam Bridcutt.
Thought he was going to stay, the rumours started, and he was gone.
Be it Kayal is a far better midfielder, keep him :)

Seem to remember this happening with Lewis Dunk last season. Thought he was going to stay, the rumours started and then.... he signed a massive new contract.

Can't believe there's discussion about whether £1.5m is 'about right' . He's the best of our very talented group of players .

So Burnley want Stephens and Hull want Kayal. Christ, those two clubs are ****ED! What a total lack of imagination. By comparison Boro have been looking wide and far.

Pathetic.

Although . . . . we played Leicester and then they bought Leo.

9 Million a piece it is, then.:rant:

Kayal will go nowhere for £1.5m unless he has a clause in his contract.

Sit them both down and say to them "Look, you could both move now and find yourselves in a lower division than the Albion in 6 months. Or you can stay here where you/your family are settled. We give it one last big push for promotion. If we're off the pace in January, you can go. If you've played to the best of your ability then you'll attract much better clubs than Burnley and Hull. If we're doing well? Then stay and write your name in to Albion folklore, be the key players in getting this team to the top flight in nearly 40 years. If you stay for the whole season and we fall short, then you can move on anyway."

I genuinely think we can hold on to both of them.

The beating heart of our side. The loss would be monumental.

Tony needs to get these contracts sorted very soon, as to lose one would be disappointing but to lose both would be a promotion killer.
