That's sold as part of the 'matchday experience' though, so does count as directly relates to the football.

So is conference income included as football related?

Non-football related income can NOT be included in FFP calculations

It is one of the listed 'loopholes' that the League will be looking out for

Because it's a hotel.

Where in the FFP guidelines does it say that "non-football related income" is not included? In the description of FFP on the Football League's website, there are 4 items which are explicitly excluded:-

* Investment in Youth Development
* The profit affecting element of the purchase, sale and depreciation of fixed assets excluding players (e.g. a club's stadium)
* Investment in a club's Community Scheme
* Promotion related bonus payments

Now, whilst the purchase, sale and depreciation of a hotel would be excluded (per the second item above), there is nothing that suggests the income generated by that fixed asset would be excluded from the FFP calculation.

The FFP regulations don't list many of the 'loopholes' that could distort the accounts - non-football related income is an obvious one and has been specifically highlighted with regards to FIFA's FFP regulations and there is no reason to think that the League's position will be any different.

If it weren't then there would be nothing to stop any club 'angel' from including any of their profitable businesses under the umbrella of a holding company which also included the football club as a separate company.

When the plans for the hotel were announced on the club website on October 10th, Martin Perry commented "It will help us develop our revenue streams...."

Paul Barber added: "These developments will have a huge impact on the local economy, but will also help the club face the economic challenges of Financial Fair Play. They will provide us with additional extra income streams...."

I think you are wrong; income generated from any hotel built by the club WILL be included under FFP. Apparently Martin Perry and Paul Barber concur.

If the football club receive income from the hotel it is no different to any other income the club generates. I have a suspicion it will be a seperate stand-alone business though; part of Bloom's return on his investment.

3* or 4* it will be full most of the time. As already commented our fair city despite it's burgeoning reputation still has relatively few beds available for the number of visitors and I would think that a hotel just off the A27 would be fairly attractive for anyone doing either a long east west commute or holiday. Plus an ideal place for all the clucking mummy's and daddy's to stay whilst dropping junior off into a life of University based revelry.

I think the only thing we can safely say is that it's unlikely to be run by Jury's Inn.

That's actually a good point I doubt anyone has thought of, parents are CONSTANTLY coming to visit their children at Uni (well certain types are) and that hotel is the ideal place for them to stay.

THREE major development projects that will bring £674 million of investment, 3,550 jobs and 588 homes are expected to get fresh impetus from council chiefs today.

Councillors on Brighton and Hove’s policy and resources committee will discuss the renovation of the city’s seafront, college and developments at the football stadium site.

Also up for discussion is a lease agreement to allow the owners of the American Express Community Stadium to develop land next to the ground for a four-star, 150-bedroom hotel. As well as a new ticket and box office, The Community Stadium Limited is in talks with the University of Brighton about a joint sports research facility on the site and have received serious expressions of interest to extend the existing medical centre.
Albion executive director Martin Perry said it was unlikely any work would start on the hotel until after the Rugby World Cup in September next year. He said: “It is early days but this is good news for the club.

“The council have agreed a deal for the lease of the land needed for the hotel and, if the members approve the deal today, the club will be in a position to enter into legal agreements with the hotel operator and to prepare a planning application for the hotel to be submitted in 2015.”

With a global sporting championship coming to the Amex next year, and with fans coming from all corners of the globe, seems a bit odd not to have accelerated the plans so the hotel was up and running to cater for the influx of visitors coming here for the Rugby World Cup. *shrug*
