yes, as seen from all those treatments and cures that have been found by charities. and the cancer free populations in places like Russia and China. oh, nope they dont have a cure either.

There doesn't need to be a cure for cancer. There needs to be an education as to the cause of cancer. It's diet/lifestyle related. It's a western disease; why don't japan have high rates of cancer? Diet, even though they smoke a lot.

Fresh fruit, veg, salad, seeds, water, fish. That's what we've primarily evolved on. All this processed crap in the typical western diet is a major factor in cancer, but people don't want to take responsibility for their own lives, they want to go to someone else to make them better or give them a pill.

I get the impression the hospital has been economic with the truth. News headlines that the kid was going to die when the battery on his feeding tube equipment went flat have been proved groundless as the parents bought all the necessary medical kit online. The question that needs to be asked is whether or not the hospital applied for a ward of court order BEFORE or AFTER the kid was removed. The Spanish judge is taking 72 hours to ponder on the extradition order so it isn't an open and shut case as we were lead to believe.

Yes, I sounded a but crackpot, I should have said treatments. Not cures.

The parents have made the situation worse by taking their child out of the country. They should have left the boy in the UK hospital and negotiate the treatment elsewhere. Taking the boy away was not helpful.

They tried negotiating...

intriguing claim about Japan, looked it up.. they have 80% the rates we do. see http://www.wcrf.org/cancer_statistics/cancer_frequency.php. interesting the top are Denmark and the like of Hungry, Czech and Solvenia above us. kinda blows a hole in the "typical western diet" what ever that is.

most interesting is Slovakia is 93% of Czech, wonder how the UK would break down post Scottish independence.
also interesting how UK men/women rate is about the same, but in other countries the men are much higher, leading us in UK to be 14th highest rates for women but only 37th for men. i have no idea what can be concluded from that.

And of course a dying young 5 year old boy is going to be SO much better off thanks to British police preventing his parents being with him and instead being in jail. I suggest you watch the father's YouTube video and see how bullying British police and the arrogant medical system is.

If they hadn't acted then the hospital would have got an order and stopped them doing anything.

The widespread disgust at the authories behaviour has at least led to a u turn bynall parties concerned. What a disgrace it ever got to this stage in the first place. I hope the family successfully sue the f out of the hospital and old bill. The thought of that terrified kid dying in a hospital where he can't understand anyone without his parents is utterly repugnant.

And while the authorities are busy squabbling amongst themselves to try to save face, a child lays dying and alone.

The world is truly going mad.

Appears to be very much a case of the police doing, very possibly, the right thing, but then not knowing when it's time to STOP.

The child has been found, no neglect has been proved, the care of the parents has been proved. What will be gained by their continued detention and possible extradition?

What is currently being reported shows Mr Plod in a very unfavourable light. Time to reassess and let the family get on with doing what they think best for their son. Help is what's required, not the continued use of a very heavy hand.

Easy to say when you have only heard one side of the story and the hospital cannot really respond without breaking patient confidentiality.

I suggest you read up on the treatment the UK is offering to their child compared with more advanced treatments elsewhere before judging these poor parents.

Suggest you read up as well. Proton treatment is not available here yet but the NHS send plenty of people abroad for that treatment.

The childs life was possibly saved by the extensive police activity and publicity. As a result he will get the best possible treatment but if released and the parents didnt agree with the treatment it could all start again with them taking him again. They obviously love and care for him but are somewhat misguided in their view of what is in his best interests

Tend to agree with this until we get to hear both sides of the story.

I once had a brain tumour removed. I refused to have radiotherapy when i was a teenager as I was diagnosed with cancer. I consumed cannabis as was advised by specialists and now my epilepsy is gone, I still have cancer but it looks less likely i will need radiotherapy and i'm in much better condition than was first predicted by the neurosurgeons.
Looking back, i am so glad i didn't go through radio therapy. My thoughts go out to the parents, i really hope they can deal with this.
I am completely on the side of the parents, there is definitely alternative options to radiotherapy

The parents do want radiotherapy, it is just an advanced form called proton therapy!

If he felt he wasn't getting anywhere with those particular doctors then why didn't he seek legal advice?

Up to the point of contacting the police the hospital almost certainly did the right things - but from that point someone didn't try and contact the parents and just made assumptions that the family couldn't care for their son.

If they had checked with the family first they would have found out that everything was ok and they could have discussed the matter further with the family.

They didn't - someone at the hospital went straight to the police overstating the dangers and the police hit red alert and contacted interpol etc which resulted in the family being separated from their child.

This is all proved by both the police and the hospital back peddling admitting they did not follow procedure.

Doctors and nurses do make mistakes and errors of judgement - the police do and cover it up like Hillsborough they go over the top too often

It's the job of police to uphold the law. Regardless of the personal opinions of the senior officers involved in this SNAFU, they must surely have known that the family had committed no offence. They could have chosen to stay out of it.

The family had the presence of mind to publish their side of the story on Youtube. Had it not been for that the public would still believe the one-sided version given out by the hospital and police and repeated (indeed, abetted) by a completely uncritical media, who were publishing appeals for them to be apprehended.

This story, and others recently, illustrate only too clearly how the UK has almost completed its move to becoming a technocratic, corporatist state. There's another thread about the 75 year anniversary of WWII. 75 years ago they had a simpler 7-letter name for what this is.
