[Albion] The Legends wall at the Amex

This thread neatly proves the maxim that the whole 'Legends' concept in football is completely overblown. If anyone and everyone gets called a Legend (which they do) it diminishes the achievements of true legends.

Have hard and fast criteria: 400 appearances and/or 100 goals. You have to prove you are a Legend of the club and that's the only way to do it, longevity.

It’s a legends wall but just woefully out of date I guess.

Out of interest, what boxes have been ticket? I don’t understand this comment?
I'm not sure that it is a "legends" wall as such, merely murals of the more popular players who have worn the stripes in recent years.

So, me of the ladies players are on the wall now too. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be there, (l wouldn't dare!), but obviously that cuts down on the number of men that were once on the wall. I also wonder who actually decides which players go on there.

They have changed over the years we've been at the Amex. and I expect they will change again for the new season

Last season's set up was a celebration of 10 years at the Amex, so all the players were from that era of our history.

So come on Bamber who is?:)

Buggered if I can remember, but it appears that nobody else can either :lolol:

From my investigations I believe there are actually 15 of them

So a non descript player who has just stuck at one club throughout our years stuck in League 3 south is a legend but Reinalt isn't! Peter Ward not a legend by your criteria, nor is Brian Horton. Fact is not anyone and everyone get's called a legend.

Im sure someone has said but originally it was a 'wall of legends' and then a bunch got swapped out and it was rebranded to focus on players who had been with us during the 10 years at the Amex. Last i saw it was still a '10 years at the Amex' tribute wall.

I think we had a similar discussion years ago when it was first created, and someone said the official view of the club was that it wasn't a 'Legends' wall as such, but more to celebrate iconic moments in Albion's history, such as Leon Knight scoring the penalty in the play-off final against Bristol City. People then quite rightly pointed out that most of the pictures were just of players and weren't representative of 'iconic' events in the slightest - and also it was heavily biased towards recent years. The slightly huffy answer was "Ok, look it's just a wall of bloody pictures, alright? Jeez."

Yes that's true. To be fair to the club though, it could be pointless putting up pics of players from past generations, as the majority of young fans have probably never even heard of them.

I mean can you imagine young Jimmy saying to his dad, can we walk past the legends wall please, so that we can see that picture of Pom Pom Whiting?

No neither can l.

Showing your age there. He wouldn't ask his dad, he'd just google it on his phone.

On a serious note, if there are players from days gone by then surely that would prompt younger fans to look them up and expand their knowledge of the club they support!

Hmmm maybe. I can't help thinking though that many of the kids of today are only interested in the present day, and have no real knowledge of, or interest in history.

The Premier League, and what is happening here and now, is the be all and end all.

I can confirm that the banners currently feature the following players.

Ashley Barnes
Yves Bissouma
Danni Bowman
Bruno
Will Buckley
Inigo Calderon
Andrew Crofts
Shane Duffy
Lewis Dunk (except for home games against Palace)
Gordon Greer
Beram Kayal
Emily Simpkins
Anthony Knockaert
Sir Glenn
Maty Ryan
Steve Sidwell
Solly
Kazenga LuaLua
David Stockdale
Leo Ulloa
Vicente
Aileen Whelan
Bobby Zamora

Debate the presence of the female players all you like (and I would assume they would be replaced by more up to date players next time the banners are replaced) but there are a few of the male players who might be on the replacement list. Good though they were at the time, I'd probably include Barnes, Bissouma, Crofts, Duffy, Kayal, Ryan, LuaLua and Stockdale in that. Buckley makes the cut for the Doncaster goal, IMHO, Knockaert for that magical 2017 season, and Ulloa for the Forest away moment. I think I'd still keep Calderon, but I'd be interested to see what a poll of fans thought about retaining Bruno now

Yep this is the ideal thread for a poll. Who would we vote on to that list? . . . and just as importantly, who would we vote off?
