More pertinent than any other metrics imho.
By say the end of September we’ll be able to see if we’re going to be in a relatively good place going forward (that is, not a repeat of autumn 2020).
Infections numbers reported today almost unchanged from last Tuesday (29k) and only 6.5% up on the 7 days prior - really doesn't look like Freedom Day has led to any kind of material increase. Hospitalisations are also on a downward trend and deaths more or less flat now (will obviously lag the downward shift in admissions)

Given that we are now into the 4th week past "freedom day" we should be at the very worst point of the exit wave, with infections, hospitalisations and deaths all at or around the peak.The effect of freedom day can be seen in increases in infections but there simply hasnt been any equivalent increase in deaths ,although any deaths are tragic the daily numbers from corresponding times in Jan 2021 and April 2020 (924 and 1248) compared to the 90 at the apparent peak of this wave show just how far we have come.

UK scientists have identified the markers associated with rare blood clots linked to the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, which could help treat the condition more effectively and increase survival chances.
A team of experts, led by Dr Sue Pavord of Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust, have set out a guidance for clinicians that can help diagnose what they call vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (Vitt).
experts said treatments such as plasma exchange, which involves removing straw-coloured liquid known as plasma from the blood and replacing it with new plasma fluid, can dramatically increase survival chances for those with severe disease.

Wow! That is incredible! .... 100,000 lives saved by the vaccines! That means that without them we would have had 230,000 Fatalities due to Covid, just over twice as many as France have had.

The medicines regulator has approved use of the first treatment in the UK using artificial antibodies to prevent and fight Covid-19.
The health secretary, Sajid Javid, said approval of the first drug designed specifically for coronavirus in the country is “fantastic news” and he hoped it could be rolled out for patients on the NHS as soon as possible.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said the clinical trial data they had assessed had shown Ronapreve may be used to prevent infection, treat symptoms of acute Covid-19 infection and could reduce the likelihood of being admitted to hospital because of the virus.
Trials took place before widespread vaccination and before the emergence of virus variants. It is the first monoclonal antibody combination product approved for use in the prevention and treatment of acute infection from the virus for the UK.
The drug, developed by Regeneron and Roche, is given either by injection or infusion and acts at the lining of the respiratory system where it binds tightly to the virus and prevents it from gaining access to the cells, the MHRA says.
