That doesn't mean JACK. That was still their bloody CD blaring out of the speakers, they were NOT playing those instruments, and they were NOT singing it Live. Even if there had been wires trailing everywhere, it was so obviously cut in a studio and played on the night. I was desperately willing a Milli Vanilli-type technical fault. That would have redeemed the entire evening.

They didn't mime! Are you deaf?

The fact that they gave a good performance and were able to reproduce a difficult song to sing so well that you thought they mimned is a testiment to their abilities!

There was even a feckin guitar solo tapping Van Halen stylee at the end! Did they record that in the studio before hand?!?!?

Quote of the night:

"Thank to our parents for bestowing upon us the gift of ROCK! And that's the gift that keeps on giving people!"

Jesus if theysing out of tune they're crap, if they sing it in tune they're miming and thus crap! I think you've gon into this with your preconceived ideas and weren't willing to recognise a decent performance because it is fashionable to slate them at the moment.

I'll just have to agree to disagree with Lammy and Raphael Meade on The Darkness then. There were no rough edges whatsoever to their performace - not even the slightest. And I've heard that bloody single enough times to recognise a carbon copy studio performance when I hear it. An 'unplugged' rendition will always, inevitably sound a little different (and thats no bad thing). But they sounded EXACTLY the same as their CD. Every guitar strum, every note, the timing...sorry, but even if you're a number 1 fan of theirs, they ain't that good as to sound exactly the same as the single release from a studio recording.

Justin Timberlake was even more cocky than usual IMHO. Had definitely had a beer or three - nearly fluffed his tribute to Duran Duran. I still would though. ;)

Can't see it myself, although he is a good dancer.
Don't you think that beard makes him look like a child molester?

Busted are quite unique for a teen / boy band in that

A. The can play a musical instrument
B. The write original material and not just cover versions

I wouldn't buy an album as I think a 41 year old man would look a little foolish having Busted blasting out of his car stereo.

That's where having a 7 year old son comes in handy.......I'm 41 too and I CAN have it blaring out of the car stereo:clap2: :clap2:

I'm going to be contraversial here. I quite like the Darkness. what is peoples problem with them picking up their awards. Everyone knows that the Brits are not a reward for technical excellence or innovation but a reflection of what the 'music industry' has deemed to be the most successful acts of the year. hence the Darkness cleaning up. Depsite their retro sound, it is borrowed from so far back it sounds new, and it's also a bit of a laugh, unlike so much of the po-faced miserablist crap that is out there at the moment. This is their moment let them enjoy it, you don't have to listen to them.

And they did play live last night. They are a live band and were touring for years before they got there break, of course they can play. People are certainly entitled to think that they are over-hyped shite, nothing wrong with thinking that. But they are not responsible for all ills in modern music.

The best performance was from Muse, now they really rocked, totally blew the place apart. Busted were also good value with their Teenage Kicks version, it could so easily have been crap.

The worst thing 50 Cent, utter garbage.

For what its worth, I reckon The Darkness performed live.

Thye can't help it if it's been a shit year for British music. The album is great, they're okay and I thought their act last night was good.

The musical highlight was Muse, the lowpoint was 50 Cent. Gansta rap has to be the most shite form of music, slightly below gregorian chanting and yodelling.

I liked the bit where the fan was blowing up Beyonce's skirt.

But my real beef is the over-exposure of American acts and the hall being almost entirely populated by suits. Where were The Sugababes, Misteeq, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Girls Aloud, Westlife etc?

Duran Duran took some "Contribution to Music" award, or something equally meaningless. Now I quite like Duran Duran, they've done some decent stuff over the years, for its time. I thought they milked this award a bit though, considering it was basically pointless and mildly patronising. Lets face it, they're touring again in April apparently, so this is clearly a nice little trinket of publicity to remind everyone they're still alive, before they set off. They ran through a few old favourites, but their guitarist (Nick Rhodes ?)was either pissed, stoned, or of questionable / diminishing talent. He hit so many duff notes during his big solo riffs during "Ordinairy World", it was bloody embarrassing. He needs to brush up for their tour, or get the tapes out.

The one bright spot of the evening (apart from the end credits)was also, for me, the biggest surprise. I thought Busted's Live rendition of "Teenage Kicks" was bloody excellent - those lads seem to be able to play, and the vocals stood up to being shouted (as you have to with that track really). Other than that though, the whole thing was a glossy, pretencious load of old crap. I'm definately going out next year.

Spot on observations. Duran Duran up to last year hadn't played live for 18 years and not released an original album in the last 10. A totally meaningless award that was just a shameless plug for their 'reunion' tour. I'm glad that someone else spotted the horrendous duff notes on the guitar solos! Respect for playing live but time to rehearse more eh.

I thought Busted would muller an old classic song but it was really quite good and i just love that Sunburst Les Paul the 'eyebrows' was playing

To be fair to Duran Duran, they did have to play at the end of the night! Do you expect them to have to sit through all that sober!!!

Whether The Darkness played live is open to debate. On one hand it sounded to close to the CD recording but then Justin Hawkins did play some two handed tapping stuff at the end. To be honest i didn't bother checking whether the guitar players had wireless transmitters on their guitar straps.

I'd say 90% of The Darkness's performance was recorded. There's probably room for a couple of extra "whoo's" into the microphone, or a little extra strum on the guitar at the end of a chorus to pass off the illusion. But completely Live ? Naah. Just too close to the CD recording.

but then, it could show that the Darkness' recordings are actually them, and not some manufactured crap where they play around with their voices ???

I gave up on the British Music industry long ago so I didn't watch it. This thread makes interesting reading though, so much better for not being utterly f***ed up with dwayne's "opinions".

Good point well made!

However, I do feel that Easy 10 has missed out on watching some real live music that is played well!

Have a listen to Pulse by Pink Floyd. Some of the stuff on that is such good quality you'd think it was studio. But it isn't it's just that people who can play instruments well can do these thing well live. If you actually bother to listen LISTEN!!! to the Darkness you'll realise that the riffs are very simple (like all good rock). Therefore, easy to reproduce live.

Or is it coz I'm involved in this one?

Or should I just leave quietly - don't want to cause a fuss...
