Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but I cannot be bothered to read every post.

If the Albion let in a last minute goal on the final day of the season, against Palace, which means we fail to get promoted, then am I allowed to reach for my smart card and throw it at the away fans? Can I decide on if I'm throwing a 50p or a two pound coin at them? Obviously I won't wanna throw a fiver....

This is the real issue.

I've heard of this scheme being used in Germany. I think there may be machines in the stadium where you can charge up your card,

can you pay with cash when you charge it up after queueing for 15 minutes ?

What a load of bollox. A couple of 14 year old lads having to sort all that out. f*** me most of them cant even tie their own shoe laces. Will they need credit cards ?

The directors should remember that to put bums on seats as many options as possible should be made available to buy tickets, which must include cash. I have not met any other situation where cash is banned and in business you must remember the customer requires choice.
Is there not the possibilty that Amex will be charging for this service?

Would you not be able to set up a standing order with your bank to pay the card x amount each month. If at the end of the season there is a large suplus put it towards the next season ticket.

I'm really struggling to get my head around the negativity about this. Basically, the first time you buy a ticket, you will be given a smart card. The next time you want to buy a ticket, you can go, presumably with cash, to the ticket office, and top up your smart card for that game. Where's the issue with that?

If you're the sort of person that wishes to use cash to buy your tickets, then you are going to have to go somewhere physically to buy the ticket, so why not go somewhere physically to to-up the smart card? Alternatively, those who are used to internet banking or on-line updating, this is not going to be an issue of any sort. Again, where's the issue?

The benefits are not just about queue times etc, they are about saving money too. Nobody needed on the turnstiles for example, because it will computer-chipped to read the card. Less people required at the refreshments bar, because queue times should be shorter due to smart-readers. Less money on ticketing (stationary, posting costs etc), because it will be computer generated, and those are just the things I can't think of, there will be loads of others.

In my understanding, the technology will also be paid for by Amex as part of it's live-test scenario for smart technology, one of the many things that it is trying to get into. If all goes well, I can think of any negatives of this for the Club or Amex.

What about mobile phone use? You can't pay for a phone call in cash. You either have an account or you buy (or top up) a card.

I, also, am struggling to see the negatives here. Hopefully the away fans WILL use this system too, then they'll forget to spend half of the cash they had on the card and the club will get free money :)

I was rather hoping the cards would be available now so I could put a tenner on every week and have a tidy sum ready for the 1st season at falmer, maybe even enough for a season ticket.

Ditto. If you believe half the posts on this site you'd expect total meltdown at Falmer in a year's time with people unable to purchase a ticket, a burger or, from another thread, be totally unable to get home after the game.

People better get used to living in a cashless world as this is how we pay for everything in the future.
