The Age of the Lizard dawns........ Match Report

BRIGHTONFANS.COM SIX-A-SIDE WINTER KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT

Group A

AFC Lizard 6 - 1 Mejona United

The much anticipated first game for the newly founded AFC Lizard ended in a result that summed up the game perfectly.

Good early pressure from the moths was soaked up well by Mejona. The deadlock was finally broken after 10 minutes with a cracking goal from Vinyl Richie.

Mejona started nervously keeping three back which allowed the lizards plenty of room in the center of the pitch. This room allowed the build-up for a second goal, scored by jonnyboylennon.

Silky skills from the opposition looked fancy but didn't help them, with Crabtree and Chappers rock solid in defence.

Half Time 2-0.

The half time teamtalk by Mejona was obviously to become more physical as the tackles started flying in straight from the off. But the moths were more than a match for them with good challenges coming in from Safeway and Mark.

Mejona, sensing that the match was slipping away from them, pushed forward allowing a quick breakaway from Vinyl Richie to slide the ball past the keeper.

Immediately following the restart, the ball was lost, Brunning picked it up, ran the length of the pitch and smashed it in the back of the net.

Two goals in a minute effectively killed the game off, but still the Lizards were relentless. Chance upon chance went begging.

With the moths tiring quicker than their younger counterparts, Mejona's dainty footwork occasionally proved useful as they started having their first real shots on goal, allowing Albion Rob to show off his quality skills between the sticks.

The fifth goal came after a long string of passes, involving the whole team, set up jonnyboylennon to smash in a corker into the top corner of the net.

With about 5 minutes to go, a quick breakaway left Artois with just the goal and the keeper in front of him. Without a thought of going for the ball, their keeper charged straight into him, but Artois managed to keep on his feet to slide the ball into the net.

To their credit, Mejona continued their search for a consolation and with a minute to go, they got it. A good passing movement allowed them to get in a powerful shot, which went in the bottom corner.

Barely time for the restart before the ref blew for full time. The traditional handshakes went out of the window as Mejona immediately disappeared off into the distance muttering "Why does this always happen to us".

A very satisfactory result that will silence the critics and sets it up perfectly for next weeks big game against NSC Albion.

Come on you Lizards.

Get in.

It's feeding time for the LIZARDS next week.

Good performances all round today i reckon. The fitness levels are a worry but they can only get better.

ps I just had a shower and my leg ain't looking too clever.

You missed Ben from your teamsheet.

You also failed to mention Brunnings missed open goal from 3 yards!

I don't think the scoreline really reflects the game. Mejona weren't bad, but they didn't have anyone up front in the first half, and the bloke up front in the second half just moaned throughout the whole game. They did have enough chances to get it back to 4-4 at one stage.

The ref was good.

yeah i must admit we did run away and try to get in to the changing rooms as soon as possible. it was utterly disgraceful! we had a nice spell of 10 or so minutes when we were flying shots in to your goal but we were just shit at shooting today. we need to recruit a big defender aswell. the ponsy flicks didnt work and the only thing that was partially good was our outstanding gk and our passing along the floor, got to give credit where its due to the lizards. we were complacent of 'team mad' and believed you were the same outfit. the shots were just raining in at us and we coulsdnt stop it, ah well. the wooden spoon counts as a trophy dosent it?

Considering you slid about 15 yards on astroturf, MAX, I'm not surprised your leg is looking bad.

A commanding performance as the Lizards' forwards proved too slippery for the Mejona defence.

We have stated our intent with a crushing first game victory, nobody do too much at eork this weej so we're all in tip-top condition for next Sunday's big local derby.

not because we got thrashed or anything but i would say its going to be very close between nsc and lizard. there defence looked strong, a reliable keeper, and upfront they were pretty impressive to slot 6 past our goalie, true a couple from our own mistakes but to be fair they looked the part(wat drugs is this kid on theyr'e all thinking). nsc better beware us in a fortnight, we should have completed the signing of a big defender, therefore letting me 'surge' more

:shootself

Oops, only just spotted this. :dunce:

That's alright, I never do any work and nor does anyone else in the team given our combined post count. The problem could come from a load of us having hangovers from the BDO (Big Day Out) that is QPR. Should be interesting.

I thought of that too.

We will all get hammered Saurday except Womble and Brunning.

Could just make those two play one-on-one.

Then again it is a 3pm kick-off, Paul Merson and Tony Adams did fine when they were off on a bender the night before each gamw!

I'm not drinking next saturday.

THe losses of Vinyl Richie and Jonnyboylennon next Sunday will be felt by the Lizards, the rest of us are going to have to put in strong performances if we are going to get a result.
