...are using this whole episode (especially this now likely extended school closure to after scheduled October half term) to clean sweep the economy and use the panic they are creating to distort and bury other bad news!!

If the Schools don't reopen until end of October it will devastate businesses especially manufacturing output and push us deeper in to deflation whilst masking the likely future devastating effect of quantitative easing.

The entire economy will be restarted and all banks will be given a start up triple a rating to ensure they offer directorships to the hundreds of outgoing MPs

Oh yes Paul Ifill !!!!!!

Tim, you do talk tory bollocks. Pandemic planning has to cater for the worse case scenario. The problem is, the press get hold of titbits and blow it all out of proportion because it creates a great headline.

Tory bollocks? It sounds more like the usual Trotskyite nonsense that the Workers Revolutionary Party used to come up with.

"Government in conspiracy to hide the truth".

Take your point although at the moment, the Eton crew seem to jump on every situation claiming it is the fault of the incumbent government. I suspect come next May, some will be blaming GB and his cronies if we fail to get in the play-offs.

I fail to see how closing schools for a further 4 weeks would, as you state, devastate the economy.

You should really stop reading the Daily Mail!

You should stop spouting facist cliches. What isn't in any doubt the next government will have to raise taxes and cut spending drasticlly or we will lose our AAA credit rating.

Same old labour, country bankrupt, mass unemployment, over run with immigrants, international laughing stock..

First suspected case today of swine flu at my place of work. Need to stay fit and healthy now to do the overtime. :)

Which they are. Added with every new left policy from the USA including the proven failures and minus the Nationalisation policies which only an idiot would want back.
Eh?

In the context of UK labour history, the MINIMUM requirement for this government to be described as "socialist" would be that it embraced the aims adopted by the Labour Party in 1918 which were abandoned by the Party in 1995:-

"To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service".

Blair's new version of Clause 4 of the party's constitution might have been proclaimed in the name of "democratic socialism". But, if you're looking for something that is recognisably "socialist", it's hardly convincing:-

"The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect".

The original Clause 4 was dropped and a new one Blairised to create New Labour and make them credible to the electorate.
