I have not had the pleasure of playing Crawley Eagles, but as they have chosen to play in the Sussex Invitation League for several years now I can only assume that probably reflects the location of a majority of their club members... I'm sure that Sussex have lost plenty of junior players from the north of the county in the past but hopefully that is changing now...

they first played in the Brighton league. I always enjoyed playing against them...really felt like you were playing an overseas team as they all jabbered away in Punjabi(??)

what Headingly racists?

It wasnt racist that non yorkshire born people were not allowed to be selected, it was a policy that originally proved sucessful in making sure that local born youngsters had access to playing for the county. It was only the fact that throughout the country youngsters were not playing the game at schools and other counties were finding that by having overseas players they were filling the gaps left by the lack of skill coming through.

There were lots of questions asked about this ruling (which is fair enough on the face of it) when it was realised that in the 80s there were lots of Asian and Caribbean Yorkshire born kids and they still weren't getting trials.

Great day for Sussex, just got back to me hotel in Edinburgh and seen we are 386-5. Looks like we are playing two spinners, hope its hot and we take the game to Yorkshire.

Come on Sussex.

Went to the whole day's play today and have to say on the whole we batted pretty well. Goodwin & Adams sounded like they were well pissed off not to push on more, on both occasions I could hear the sound of them throwing their bats down in the dressing room.

Rashid looked the best bowler today and seems a good prospect. I reckon Mushy & Saqi will do well on this pitch.

Certainly was; when playing for Prestonville during the early '70s I remember one of the patients (male) having a piss up the stumps during the tea interval.

do you remember being told not to talk to the patients when they wandered on the pitch.

our skipper yelled after the game was stopped for the millionth time " get off the f***ing pitch you wirdo...." at this bloke.......he started shouting at him in french as the poor sod reconed he was Napoleon.

Very bizzare

Bowled well in the bit I saw (middle session). Brilliant catch at short leg to dismiss Yardy.
