Starter and main as I prefer savoury - although much more recently just a main followed by coffee as my appetite isn’t what it used to be.

Was never a big desert fan*

except for Lemon Sorbet

or Crème Brûlée.

Oh and a mountain of fresh cream chocolate profiteroles with extra cream

Occasionally dark chocolate mousse

and cheesecake

I do relish an Eton Mess in the summer too

*I suppose I do like deserts 😊

Starter and main. If I’m still hungry after that though then a cheeseboard is usually my preferred choice but can be tempted by Eton Mess or a crumble and custard on the very odd occasion.

Generally I'll only have two courses and usually starter and main. BUT if a dessert catches my eye then I don't have a starter. It annoys when places have a seperate dessert menu which they only bring to you after you've eaten your main. I've taken to asking for the dessert menu when they bring the starter & main menu - a few strange looks but I don't care - I'm the customer.

I'll always take a look at the desserts menu and then decide. If there's a sticky toffee pudding I'll go with main and that. Otherwise I'll typically go with a starter. Unless I'm at The Ivy when I'll always have a chocolate bomb.

Agree about the triumph of shopping quote. I don’t have a particularly sweet tooth though, and am rarely excited by the dessert offering. Things which do excite me are old school desserts like creme brûlée, trifle or treacle tart. I did have an apple ice cream with white apple chocolate a few months back; that was great. Otherwise it’s some rank cheeses.
What school did you go to? The best we got for pudding in the sixties at Lewes Boys’ Grammar, was pink custard on a steamed pudding.

Cheese wise it's the ranker the better for me, especially if it's blue . . . helped down by a glass or three of port, obviously.

Or of course one can pour it over the cheese, then go in with a spoon. Amyone else into that?

My MUMMY has partially cursed me but also helped me in the long run. Because she was one of those DIABETICS all of our homemade baked goods etc were usually with around 1/3rd of the sugar suggested in recipes. My pallet now tastes sweetness in things lots of other people can't particularly. For example I find porridge or weetabix has a real natural sweetness. I certainly don't need to add any honey etc, especially if I have fruit with it.

It's something I've carried on with my kids. So it's definitely a positive.

However it does mean I really can't stomach most purchased PUDS, be that in a shop or a restaurant. It's just far too sweet and frankly I think it's a bit RANK.

Starter and main for me please. Make the starter LIGHT as we are in the warmer months.
