Well you learn something every day, I thought the English generally used the Latin derivative from autumnus - autumn.

I'll stop cussing English people when I hear them using fall in future. You'll be telling me that gotten is ok in English next!
It's certainly where the French got 'Automne' from. Then when they invaded the word passed, slightly corrupted, into modern English. We can thank the Americans for keeping several Old English words alive: 'skedaddle' being one, and the expression 'to bite the dust' wasn't invent by Hollywood Westerns.

I've long used the phrase every day is a school day, and hope to learn something new most, if not every day! Thank you for helping me meet my daily target 😁

Apologies if it's already been covered but why do the clocks go back at the end of October, less than 2 months before the shortest day of the year (20/21 Dec) and forward at the end of March, more than 3 months after the shortest day?? Should go forward end of Feb shirley?

Well I for one am seriously fecked off with having to get up at 2am or whatever twice a year and changing 5 clocks around the house.

Bin it.

You could set the alarm and not have to wake up late.
