Southampton - most basic team to ever be leading the second tier of English football?

They play some decent football that's for sure. Where their fans seem to be misguided though is in thinking they have the only team that does.... There are plenty of good clubs in this division and yet they genuinely seem to feel they're a big fish in a small pond. It's an attitude that could come back to haunt them - personally, I don't think they'll finish in the top 2.

Thier luck ran out when they played Bristol City, untill then they played all the right teams at the right time. I would like to see their points average since then. They are in a slow decline which may well accelerate seeing teams are stacking up behind them.

You'd like to see their points average since they played Bristol? That was their last game before today. Their points average sine then is zero. Wait, have they played them twice already? ... ah yes. Since they played Brstol the first time they've played 7 games, and won 8 points. If you include the first bristol game, they average 1 point per game, 1.14 if not.

Bollocks! If you don't make the Premiiership this season, your club is f***ed, big time!
Actually, no it will not be f***ed big time. I know you would like to think so based on some delusional mindset that you have obtained from somewhere - but like it or not SFC is well funded to continue as it is now (promotion or not).

It is called "a slump". All teams have them in the course of a season - as your own four defeats in a row so amply demonstrates.

I'm merely providing the stats asked for, not passing judgement on saints for their results.

Saints were good first half, quite poor second half.

But let's focus on the fact we were f***ing BRILLIANT both halves. Heroic performance.

In the first half they reminded me of us from last season. Good possession, patient and waited for their openings. They could have been out of sight by half time.

Hoof, hoof, hoof, hoof, Lallana, hoof, hoof, hoof, hoof, hoof, hoof, Lallana, hoof, goalkick to Brighton.
I cannot see how anyone with any degree of insight into football could describe the way they played in the first half and the start of the second half in that way. Virtually zero hoofing in my view. However, it did turn to serious rat sh!t when Lambert was dismissed. That happens - Brighton went to rat sh!t at St Mary's after being reduced to 10 men also.

Gentlemen. We obviously suffered with Lambert's dismissal and the dissallowed goal from Adam Lallana. I personally was stunned at how weak our bench was today (No Steve De Ridder, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jose Fonte etc) so naturally when we had to dig deep we couldn't respond.

Lambert being key to us is well known to our fans, hence why many of us are wanting a Lukas Jutkiewicz or similar who can provide an alternative. But enough of the bleating, you took your chances extremely well, honours even between us this season. All the best for the rest of the year.

From a Saint in peace.

Play fair, Saints fans are being very graceful about the game.

It was hilarious seeing Mark Bright's face on the B.B.C as they cut to the Amex as we went 2-0 up. And all he could say was Southampton deserved to be top because "they were the best passing team in the championship"

Agreed. They overran us last season at Withdean when we had Bennett and Murray and still we could barely get out of our half. They threatened to do the same today in the first half.

Anyone can beat a poor side. Southampton have a great squad and it shows the extent we are onto a good thing with Gus that we can win 3-0 against them.

I dissagree mate to be fair. Beyond our first 16 we have little. An excellent first eleven and not much of a plan 'B,' that has cost us dearly recently now the season has begun to take it's toll.

Not wishing to take anything away from your win. You responded extremely well to press home the advantage that presented itself but we do have our vulnerabilities. You sucessfully exploited them today.

Don't worry, you're quoting the Complete Badger who has absolutely no degree of insight into football at all and thinks he's some kind of 'shock jock' on here. He didn't post for about 6 months straight last year when we were top of the league.

Strange that we've had two 0-0 first halfs between us this year and then 5 out of the 6 goals have been against a 10-man team, shame that we haven't had a full game this season

To be fair fella, I don't think they did overrun us at the Withdean. We deserved our 1-0 lead at half time and they only came into it, and eventually won it after Murray went off injured and Gus made some disastrous tactical subs.

To be fair we were lucky to go in 0-0 at half time. The sending off changed the game, our passing game came into it's own and we played football, passed the ball and found the extra space really well. Great second half.

This time of year does produce inconsistent results but the Championship this season is totally unpredictable.
