There are some real spastics on this board. In the first half Saints played some lovely football, including some much better one-touch stuff in midfield than us. They really should have been two up at half-time. They could well have had a goal early in the second half, but really fell apart once Lambert got himself sent off.

Anyone who says they were shite clearly knows nothing about football

Correct

Superb interplay up front. On first half evidence One of the best teams to come to the Amex this season.

Absolutely woeful after sending off.

Strange game. Shows how important confidence is in football.

Exactly. 10 v 11 isn't always a huge disadvantage, but they got the ONLY man they can't afford to lose sent off. Every single time they get the ball, the only tactic on their mind is to launch it at 100mph towards Lambert's big thick Scouse head. When he's not there, well, it all turns even uglier than it is with him in the team.

I noticed that -massive beachball head!

I must have been watching a different first half to a lot of people here. I thought that Soton were a good team in the first half, they mixed it up well some direct football when required, but also some nice passing as well. I thought Prado played well in the hole and we struggled to pick him up at times, and Hammond was tidy. Once Lambert was off though they had to change, and I thought that was down to us, because all of a sudden we had some belief and took the game to them brilliantly. Caskey was a revelation, Sparrow's 1st goal was a contender for goal of the season and I thought Cook had a really solid game against their left winger, and Hall was very useful when he came on.
Only downer was Greer's sending off. Did not see what happened unfortunately.

I think Southampton have got to the top by doing what every body knows they can do that is win at home but their away form has been poor. They were too 1 dimensional and when Lambert let them down by getting sent off, right under the refs nose, they had no plan B, and we moan about Gus and his plan B. I think that it was a just result. I am rather suprised that Harding lasted as long as he did as I said after our first attack by Buckley that he wouldnt see the game out as he would either be subbed or sent off as he had no idea of how to stop Buckley.

Spot on - You can see why their top based on the first 45 minutes, an excellent team who will finish top three no worries.

when lambert went off they were gash... HOWEVER they're much more than just a hoof ball team. They're very organised. They move the ball quickly and the players interchange in and out of positions very well when lambert is on the field. he drops in the hole and also pulls away against the fullbacks to win knock downs etc. Lallana is dangerous and da prada is useful. Pretty unfair to say they've only been a hoof ball team this season albeit that is their best form of attack or so it seems. what happened to that bald twat chaplow? he looked dangerous for the first 10-15 games!

the next 3 games for saints will be very interesting! especially the 2 league games lambert will miss.

They were very solid, probably the most solid team we've faced. All their players seem to be over 6ft! But for me, not the best passing team we've played and personally I was underwhelmed by them, I thought they'd sweep our patched-up side off the park. As it was, they only troubled our goal, what, twice? In the first half? Considering our form and personnel, the sheer fact we matched them says a lot.. (In my opinion)

I didn't make the trip to Southampton earlier in the season, did they play expansive passing football then?

Very surprised that Saints are topping the table - they really rely on Lambert and just gave up when he was sent off.

Correct me if I am wrong but have they added to their squad that finished runners up to us last season ? If not they won't go up this year.

But trust me, we WILL finish above you.

My friend,

by all means question our play but it won't do to call us a 'joke team'. Yes, we lost today but we must be doing something right because it is now into the second half of the season and we are still (just) top of the league. No joke there!

And with the £12m cash from the sale of oxo to the Arsenal and gates of 25k ++ there should be money to strengthen...

My friend.

Is it true you are still £20 million in debt or was that before oxo went to Arsenal?

Until the sending off they looked pretty solid and could,ve been 2-0 up at half time,im not surprised they are top as they look a solid outfit.

Today was our day for once:)

agreed, some people need to get their head out there arses, they are a strong outfit who outplayed us earlier on this year.
yes they play the long ball to Lambert but why wouldn't they ? they play to his strengths.

can see them slipping up a few more times this year, play-offs for them i think.

To be fair it's an odd league this year. Southampton look better than West Ham or M'brough- in my opinion of course. Will come down to who can grind out the most results..

Indeed. If we played to CMS' strengths as much as Southampton do to Lambert's we would be higher up the table than we currently are.

Was not impressed with the Stains at all today, mid table cloggers at best on this showing,we were there for the taking today and they went away with a 3-0 beating.

My darling, please do keep up.

'No' is the answer.

Marcus Leibherr bought our club, paid off the debt including the mortgage on the stadium and has invested heavily. Alas, he then passed on but his family have made it clear they will back our club.

Make no mistake, our club is well funded. And well supported too. And well run.

(and no that was not before oxo went. We ain't been in debt since Lowe went.)
