Of late not much! Quite liked the Thursday night tribute to the NHS and the fund raising by captain Tom. But that was soon counterbalanced by a large section of the population shatting all over that.

Have you ever lived abroad? Every country has its issues, us included of course. But, believe it or not, we are one of the most tolerant countries in the world, be it with regards to religion, race or sexuality. It doesn't feel like it sometimes, and there's still a lot of work to be done, but we absolutely are.

Loads of other stuff to recognise too that others have pointed out.

It must be pretty tiring being so negative all the time.

In this country you find people who are kind, smart, thoughful, bright, fun, trustworthy, helpful and amusing. Lots of them. In my travels I have found it rare to meet all of these in individuals.

I love the cautious hope, the infrequency of hubris, the increasing care for the environment (and I mean starting with not chucking cans and crisp packets all over the place at every beauty spot like we saw in the 60s) and the fact that we still have decent politicians - better than those in many other countries (albeit the number of hubristic charlatans continues to be higher than I'd like).

Could I have lived elsewhere? Yes.

Regrets? I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention.

Our history of comedy from amongst many Charlie Chaplin, the Goon Show, Monty Python to Dominic Cummings.

The whole world has laughed and is still laughing.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule but generally I think we are mostly polite and have nice manners. We queue properly in the main, let people through and say after you, say please and thank you and sorry when it is not always our fault.

Our Rights of Way network (I have to say this because I look after them, but of course there is a reason I look after them) - yes, in other countries there may be some better paths or more ability to wander, but here we are unique in having paths across privately owned land to get to places, all looked after by the public for the public. There is nowhere else in the world where you can go anywhere in the country, buy a map and set off for a wander from wherever you are staying, across fields and woods to the pub, even though you have never been there before - in the knowledge that you are pretty safe and allowed to be there.

We didn't piss about when Poland was invaded by the Hun. 'Ave it.

Bill Bryson, Notes from a Small Island

“Suddenly, in the space of a moment, I realised what it was that I loved about Britain - which is to say, all of it. Every last bit of it, good and bad - Marmite, village fetes, country lanes, people saying 'mustn't grumble' and 'I'm terribly sorry but', people apologising to me when I conk them with a nameless elbow, milk in bottles, beans on toast, haymaking in June, stinging nettles, seaside piers, Ordnance Survey maps, crumpets, hot-water bottles as a necessity, drizzly Sundays - every bit of it.

What a wondrous place this was - crazy as f, of course, but adorable to the tiniest degree. What other country, after all, could possibly have come up with place names like Tooting Bec and Farleigh Wallop, or a game like cricket that goes on for three days and never seems to start? Who else would think it not the least odd to make their judges wear little mops on their heads, compel the Speaker of the House of Commons to sit on something called the Woolsack, or take pride in a military hero whose dying wish was to be kissed by a fellow named Hardy? ('Please Hardy, full on the lips, with just a bit of tongue.') What other nation in the world could possibly have given us William Shakespeare, pork pies, Christopher Wren, Windsor Great Park, the Open University, Gardeners' Question Time and the chocolate digestive biscuit? None, of course.

How easily we lose sight of all this. What an enigma Britain will seem to historians when they look back on the second half of the twentieth century. Here is a country that fought and won a noble war, dismantled a mighty empire in a generally benign and enlightened way, created a far-seeing welfare state - in short, did nearly everything right - and then spent the rest of the century looking on itself as a chronic failure. The fact is that this is still the best place in the world for most things - to post a letter, go for a walk, watch television, buy a book, venture out for a drink, go to a museum, use the bank, get lost, seek help, or stand on a hillside and take in a view.

All of this came to me in the space of a lingering moment. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like it here. I like it more than I can tell you
.”

Inventors, scientists, medical advances, the NHS, the welfare state, rights, the glorious countryside, CRICKET !

I could go on all night.

Slavery, not so keen on that though.

But I'm still a proud Englishman. There is so much to celebrate.

So what does make folk proud ?

Congratulations. You must have worked very hard to do all that.
