Bristol city had a smoking area last year

would expect the smoking ban to contribute to one of the reasons for poor attendances as well as the stadium, shite atmosphere, poor football and ridiculous ticket cost...................

I went to Pride Park a couple of years ago to see Derby v Newcastle and they opened the gates at half time to allow us smokers out for a ciggy and yes you could come back in afterwards (if you really wanted to ).

Smokers represent a fair proportion of any teams support and unless you can afford to do without them i would suggest the policy at Derby is the very least they could do.

Where poet's live.
I seen a few having a crafty cigy at halftime, not going to say were though as I don't want to get them busted.

I saw one guy on a night game walking though the crowd, were people were waiting to get there food drinks etc having a cigy, he pulled that of well. I take my hat off to that man liked his style.

Wasn't accusing you of everything... The gist was people saying that perhaps the crowds were low because smokers aren't allowed at the Withdean. He said surely people can wait for 2 hours.

No specified area - the FA ruled that all football league and premier league stadiums are strictly non-smoking.
That ruling applies to the stadium itself - not the surrounding area.

However ... the surrounding area at Withdean is Brighton & Hove City Council property and the Council has banned smoking EVERYWHERE on its premises (including, for example, behind the bike sheds on a school playing field).

...and presumably the land around the community stadium will be owned by the council too?

Went to reading chelsea 2 week ago and they have a smoking area in which you can go in and out as you wish.

I think its disgusting an open stadium like withdean can't provide a smoking area???how many people don't bother going because of this?:glare:

Doesn't anyone bother with smoking patches to help them through the 90 mins at Withdean ?

Freedom of choice and why should people wear patches?there is plenty of room to acomadate smokers.???

Why should the majority have to put up with the smoke of the minority?

There is plenty of room but currently it is against the law to smoke anywhere inside a sports stadium. Ideally a fag hut should have been erected just behind Mr Catt's back garden.

if im reading this right from peoples replies ,smoking is banned in all football stadia but some have smoking areas ? so from that i would asume the individual club has applied for a special dispensation ruling to the original law? either that or the club has realised it has lost some income since the ban and basicly made its own law. wierd innit

I do not think that it will be long before smoking is banned in any public area completely and as a reformed smoker I agree with it. Anybody who disagrees should try waiting for a bus on the north side of Western Road near Churchill Sq or near the doorways of many shops and offices.

Why should the majority have to put up with the smoke of the minority?

If the majority wandered into the minoritys smoking area it would be what they deserved. I haven't heard a single rational argument as to why there couldn't be a smoking area, or a pass out system for smokers. People should be able to go 90 mins without a fag is not a great answer, unless you are a non smoker.

I don't smoke, at the moment, but hate the anti smoking attitude and haughtiness, way over the smell of smoke

cant say i was ever bothered by peoples ciggy smoke at a outdoor arena b4 the ban,i think its a good idea to impose the ban in any place large numbers of people are together in a enclosed area as the tragic bradford fire and others bare testament, but i find it very strange that some clubs have as posters have said now got designated smoking areas presumably in a open area away from the stands,if its law then how have thease clubs got around that law ? because it may seem a poultry amount to lose the odd couple of fans through the ban ,but it seems it may well run into the hundreds at some clubs.

there are 6 of us who dont go now to withdean because of the smoking ban,4smokers and 2 non smokers (who dont go because their mates dont go) we actually go to a lot more cricket where you can smoke and before anyone says cant you go 2 hours without a fag yes i can but i enjoy smoking and so through choice have decided i cant be bothered to put my self through that at football.as for the legalities of it the law simply says somewhere that is fully enclosed for example wembley should be non smoking other grounds that for example have a stand at one end which is open on both sides but has a roof could still be smoking in that stand as could every ground that is open air..the FA issued guidlines only but this is britain so the nimby`s make the rules

Regardless of whether or not there is a roof, smokers spread their crap to everyone around them, hence they should be banned, and are banned. You cant appreciate just how disgusting it is unless you dont smoke.

They did the same at Southend the season before last.
