Given the running costs of the club, the Albion's hands seem to be tied with regards to ticket prices. Any reduction is a gamble on people turning up. As was proved at the FA Cup games a large reduction in price didn't exactly fill the place to the rafters.

And I sat in the family stand for the FA Cup game v Stafford and thought the view was fine. That area seems to be one of the few successes of this season as it seems to be fuller more often than not, with kids generating their own atmosphere and the pricing for this section seems pretty reasonable to me.

The only thing that is going to fill Withdean is a successful team, if we are challenging for promotion later on this season then expect the sold out signs to go up and the home ticket moaning to begin. We may even sell out an away allocation for a league match!

IMO it's too easy to blame the club, we are playing decent stuff at the moment, if you can afford to come then do as the boys are deserving of your support. If people are staying away just because of the facilities then I doubt that you are as big a fan of this club as you think you are.

I could have typed every word of that myself.

So the one success we have had on selling tickets at home games is reduced prices.

Pretty obvious IMHO what to do next season but will not doubt be ignored by the club.

Why can't the club just put posters up around town advertising the next two or three home games and the website and phone number for buying tickets? Or have Gully out in Churchill Square handing out flyers.

Because this might sell tickets and the Commercial arm would then be successful - likely story.

Can't do it at Old Trafford or Anfield either. How do they survive?

are you seriously comparing us to Manchester United and Liverpool?

Its is about time people remembered we are a small seaside town like Blackpool, who have no football teams near us, so dont generate Derbies, to most opposition supporters we are a novelty " look at plucky old Brighton". If we dissapeared tomorrow, how many people do you think will shed tears?

We have to face facts. The product that is being offered, through financial mismanagement in the past is substandard, poor and is totally unappealing to the floating fan in Sussex - lets face it, at Withdean, there is a sizable amount of fans who do not live in the B&H Connurbation.

We have to survive at Withdean until Falmer is given the yay or Nay. There is no-one on here knows for sure what that result will be.

for my tuppenyworth I thought the atmosphere on Boxing Day was possibly the worst I had seen at Withdean for a long time.

On the radio I have been banging on about the skill and passing ability of this team and pleasding with people to come along. The two times they do, Blackpool and Yoeville, we are absolutely shite!

I despair sometimes.

I know you are angry over the Hammers tickets, and I think you have every right. Right now though, with your constant negatives, you are in danger of becoming Ernest II.

Not good.

That is a GOOD thing not a BAD thing

Let's face it there are 4/5000 hardcore Albion fans who will watch anyone in Blue and White stripes at a shit hole and after that unless we are doing well or there is some sort of MASSIVE marketing effort that is all there will be.
And that is a FACT

The people who are staying away are (largely) not the people on NSC .... I would think that for your average joe there is a big difference between watching Championship footbll (SOuthampton, Scum, Leeds) and League 1. Plus expectations have changed. We had big crowds in Div 2 because we were a cult (the team that had come back from the dead) and were on the march (successive promotions)... now we are Championship has-beens and are suffering through postponed Famer-syndrome (before people were full of hope... now the average joe thinks we'll never leave Withdean).

NSCers will pay the money..average joe's won't unless they have something to believe in. Right now they don't.

Very good point. They used to do posters in the 'old days', I remember them at railway stations and the like. They weren't works of art , they bought a new one out each month (I think) and it simply listed the forthcoming fixtures, the teams, the prices, and the k.o. times. Trouble is if the club wanted to resurrect the idea today it would probably all be done up in marketing-speak and full of exclamation marks! as the super soaraway seagulls take on the might of Scunchester Rovers!

Where DO the club advertise BTW? I don't listed to Southern FM and I don't read the Argus so if it wasn't for NSC I wouldn't know about any games! The advantage of the old monthly posters was that as fans you could PLAN AHEAD, I haven't got a clue who we're playing in January after WHU.

I agree entirely, on this particular point. I was commenting more broadly on his need to moan constantly. That was where the reference to you came in.

The club have a site on the interweb. I imagine the fixtures are on there. www.seagulls.co.uk

I do think albion are inbetween a rock and a hrad place though.

If they drop prices too much, they a) lose money as there is a break even figure they must maintain and b) risk pissing off even more STH's who they are expecting to hand over their cash in three months time, when it is obvious that people can get a seat extremely easily these days.

the online tickets for Milwall game re east stand and south stand wing sections are priced at £15.50

does this mean we are running an online ticket offer for rest of the season re prices for these areas being reduced?????

Even that bit (once I'd found it under 'Coming up' in 'Tickets') only goes as far as Jan 9th

Also that isn't advertising though is it? It's like putting up a 'Happy Birthday Gran!' notice in your bedroom window as opposed to doing an announcement in the press. Relatively speaking only a few people look at the club site and I bet most of them are either expatriates (who thus can't attend anyway), season ticket holders or are the type of nerds who've got (edited to spare Hans Kraay Fan Club's feelings).

Given that the marketing budget is apparently minscule, I would make some very simple changes to get the place filled up while we're in this division.

1) STHs should *always* have first dibs on any ticket - home or away - to encourage renewals
2) STHs should be able to bring a friend for a tenner for any game although this should be subject to perceived demand.
3) Double the size of the club shop and sell a broader range of merchandise.

And if we're not getting any profits from any other concessions, then it's high time the club lobbied to change this. In 1999, I don't think anyone expected the club to still be at Withdean 8 years later and I think the longetivity of our stay coupled with the very few problems that it has caused really ought to enable the club to renegotiate the conditions of use. The council must be coining it in.
