So the one success we have had on selling tickets at home games is reduced prices.

Why can't the club just put posters up around town advertising the next two or three home games and the website and phone number for buying tickets? Or have Gully out in Churchill Square handing out flyers.

We have to face facts. The product that is being offered, through financial mismanagement in the past is substandard, poor and is totally unappealing to the floating fan in Sussex - lets face it, at Withdean, there is a sizable amount of fans who do not live in the B&H Connurbation.
We have to survive at Withdean until Falmer is given the yay or Nay. There is no-one on here knows for sure what that result will be.
for my tuppenyworth I thought the atmosphere on Boxing Day was possibly the worst I had seen at Withdean for a long time.
On the radio I have been banging on about the skill and passing ability of this team and pleasding with people to come along. The two times they do, Blackpool and Yoeville, we are absolutely shite!
I despair sometimes.

The people who are staying away are (largely) not the people on NSC .... I would think that for your average joe there is a big difference between watching Championship footbll (SOuthampton, Scum, Leeds) and League 1. Plus expectations have changed. We had big crowds in Div 2 because we were a cult (the team that had come back from the dead) and were on the march (successive promotions)... now we are Championship has-beens and are suffering through postponed Famer-syndrome (before people were full of hope... now the average joe thinks we'll never leave Withdean).

Very good point. They used to do posters in the 'old days', I remember them at railway stations and the like. They weren't works of art , they bought a new one out each month (I think) and it simply listed the forthcoming fixtures, the teams, the prices, and the k.o. times. Trouble is if the club wanted to resurrect the idea today it would probably all be done up in marketing-speak and full of exclamation marks! as the super soaraway seagulls take on the might of Scunchester Rovers!Tom Hark said:

I do think albion are inbetween a rock and a hrad place though.
If they drop prices too much, they a) lose money as there is a break even figure they must maintain and b) risk pissing off even more STH's who they are expecting to hand over their cash in three months time, when it is obvious that people can get a seat extremely easily these days.

Also that isn't advertising though is it? It's like putting up a 'Happy Birthday Gran!' notice in your bedroom window as opposed to doing an announcement in the press. Relatively speaking only a few people look at the club site and I bet most of them are either expatriates (who thus can't attend anyway), season ticket holders or are the type of nerds who've got (edited to spare Hans Kraay Fan Club's feelings).

Given that the marketing budget is apparently minscule, I would make some very simple changes to get the place filled up while we're in this division.
1) STHs should *always* have first dibs on any ticket - home or away - to encourage renewals
2) STHs should be able to bring a friend for a tenner for any game although this should be subject to perceived demand.
3) Double the size of the club shop and sell a broader range of merchandise.
And if we're not getting any profits from any other concessions, then it's high time the club lobbied to change this. In 1999, I don't think anyone expected the club to still be at Withdean 8 years later and I think the longetivity of our stay coupled with the very few problems that it has caused really ought to enable the club to renegotiate the conditions of use. The council must be coining it in.
