1) Read post number 5 before you destroy a possible innocent persons life!

2) tell your loud mouthed prison officer friend to stop gossiping! and if there is real cause for concern he should contact the appropriate authoritys! (I don't know for sure but I would imagine him gossiping to you like he has is probably a disciplinary offence)

3) you say the person has lived there for 12 years, and it would appear there has been no cause for concern in the past!

4) If you do own anything sharp, get someone responsible to hide the implements from you!

5) And finally, I am glad I don't live in your street (as I am sure you are!)

it is and have no doubt if he is found out it will be curtains for him/her you did have to sign the official secrets act at one time whether this is still so I don't know.
what he /she has said to you is hearsay it was very difficult to look at a prisoners record and why would you want to anyway it is of coarse possible that he was at this guys court case but I doubt the prisoner would be left at the same prison he was at waiting for a court case
whatever the truth is no prison officer should give information on someone who has been in prison
and on a personal note I am glad he never worked with me or any of the shift I was on as he would have been given short shrift and would have been down the road pretty smartly.
IMHO this thread should be taken off before someone official starts making investigations

I was sat in my FRONT ROOM, tucking into a FULL ENGLISH, and flicking through my BOY SCOUT photo album and happened to glance out of the WINDOW, to see a load of FAT men with Albion TATTOOS and STICKS waving and pointing at my HOUSE

There is a confidentiality issue as my friend actually had brief conversation with him. He told me he should not really be telling me. I don't want to drop him in it.

You're friend is a bit of a cock then. He can't tell you that you live near someone done for sex offences and then refuse to say how bad they were.

If you really feel the need to ruin someone's life, you at least need to find out what you're doing it for first. A bit of detective work shouldn't be too hard, find out his name and the internet should do the rest.....

The fact that he has lived in the house for 12 years suggest that any offence was over 12 years ago. Yet your prison officer friend recognised him and could remember what crime he committed. Not only this, he knew him that well he could talk to him.

Your prison office friend must have a good memory and have strange relationships with the criminals he deals with.

I’m not defending sex offenders or Paedophiles but these kind of stories make me despair at modern society. The fact you’d even consider telling your neighbours on the basis that a friend has identified him as a sex offender is awful, what would you do if your friend suddenly remembered he was a paedophile or rapist purely on his appearance paint a red cross on his door or form a lynch mob?

In the town I grew up the local shop assistant, who was a little strange and had learning difficulties was labelled a paedophile by a few local mums in kids after they found out he’d spent time in prison. People were adamant he was in there for such offences, some claiming they knew friends of the victims blah blah, he was subjected to physical abuse, spat at, constantly threatened and even followed on his way home.
After a number of months it was revealed he actually spent time in jail for theft from a charity, granted a pretty disgraceful crime but nowhere near as despicable as paedophilia. Unfortunately by this time the damage was done and he was forced to leave.

In any case paedophiles and sex offenders aren’t one in a million, they’re widespread and the sad reality is pretty much every road and neighbourhood will have individuals who shouldn’t be trusted around children or the vulnerable, it’s a sad fact that has always been the case I’m afraid.

Although as others have said, he does live on his own. If he has a beard and glasses he a surefire NONCE.

Let me know what his facial hair's like, anything more than some stubble and I'll get the boys round to hound him out. Knowing our luck though, the bleeding heart liberal police will come and lock US up when they should be out catching PAEDOPHILES and MURDERERS :nono:

Check his letter box does he get the Guardian delivered? Check his TV does he watch the BBC? It is all part of a looney left conspiracy to shag right wing kids and turn them into egotistical lunatics with no empathy.

I can't see how anyone would have a 'duty' to spread insubstantiated gossip around, unless of course you're willing to accept any potential ramifications that cone your way if you're wrong.

I understand the concern but at this point you've no idea what he's on the register for (if he even is), to start a panic without even the slightest basis beyond 'my mate said', 'he lives alone' and 'he looks odd' would be an awful thing to do.

Don't go over the top here. I think taking a picture of him and posting it on NSC and Facebook with the poll 'Does this guy look like a NONCE?' is probably a measured way forward.

Yeah this is definitely the proper and correct solution. Let the wisdom of NSC decide.

Has anything, whatsoever, changed, from before you knew about this?

Any individual in your street could have a conviction of that nature, without you knowing about it. I'm sure you've versed your kids in stranger danger anyway, and I'm equally sure a simple "be careful around people you don't really know" would more than suffice here.

Besides. "Sex offender" doesn't necessarily equate to "paedophile". His offence- if there even is one, might be nothing to do with kids. He might have been found guilty of sexually assaulting an adult. It could be he's a guy who got convicted back in the 1960s of frolicking with another guy, back when homosexuality was illegal.

Or it could just be your prison officer mate trying to big himself up a bit without thinking of the consequences.

Really? You could still be on the Sexual Offenders Register for this!?

12 years he's been living there, with no problems, but you're considering 'outing' him. Dear God...

But...has he got a beard?

Good point - if he's got any face fuzz at all, then disregard all previous points, do not collect £200 and head straight to ENRAGED LYNCHMOB.

The OP hasn't been back to this thread for a while. DOes anyone think he's got pitch fork mania already?

Does he wear sandals and socks? The guy really does sound like a nonce- burn him! can the OP let us know what street he lives on, we can all be over within the hour. Just to make sure we burn the right house down, i think we should burn the street, leave no stone unturned - lets end this today!

Just thought i'd mention - I was 'detained' at Leeds/Bradford airport a couple of years ago when I was on the way to an England away game, just because I look like a known football hooligan who is based in Sheffield. Even showing my passport and EnglandFans ID wasn't enough for them - they had to ring the FA's security team to prove that I was not the same person. Despite this, I missed my flight and got treated appallingly for the best part of two hours.

Goes to show that mistaken identity does happen, and can really affect people....

Absolutely. No problem for 12 years, why on earth do anything now. If something "happened" in your area, possibly slightly different. Probably isn't him anyway.

Get to know him first.............then lend him some of your pornography.

Wait and see what comes back on the quid pro quo..............then you will find out if he's a nonce or increase your pornography library.........win-win.
