Rubio the next to attempt to crawl up Putins arse. Disgusting, thought he'd be one of the less extreme Russophile in Trumps cabinet
That was my hope too. My guess is this is Trump's influence one way or another, but people in his 'team' seem to have no backbone, no morals, no perspective any more.
Shocking stuff, just keep taking their pay cheques.

Or a case of trying to play both sides …

I've watched this clip several times. The leader of the free world simply doesn't have the capacity to get the nuances.

Putin is not confused that 'people love Germany and Japan, but hate Russia'. He is TELLING Trump that he is confused. This is not the same thing.

The fact that Trump doesn't understand this, means that he fails to ask the question 'why is he telling me that?'
So the possibility Putin is trying to drive a wedge between the US and Germany/Japan, doesn't even cross his mind.

But just in case Putin really is confused, people love Germany and Japan and hate Russia, because since the tyranny of WW2, Germany and Japan have embraced democracy and have prospered, while Russia has done the opposite.

Poor Putin. It's just his confusion that makes him a genocidal maniac.

Maybe it was just to create fear in their population 🤔
After all the effort they put in to create the sense that they're in control of everything? That would be quite a departure, but then this is Russia and anything is possible. Things can change fast.

Did you see the reports of the Z bloggers? They rubbish the official commentary that it was the Brits behind the Spiders Web. They openly say, quite rightly, that it was the Ukrainians, and that they're clever. The official messaging is that Ukrainians are stupid and couldn't have been behind it. This came from Konstantin.

I guess I meant fear in the sense of "it's danger from our enemies...this is us protecting you". But, probably not 🤦🏼‍♂️
I understand.

I suspect they were taken by complete surprise by the Spider's web, just as everybody else was. So they are responding with rushed, less-than-coordinated responses. Perhaps this led to the 'official' messaging that the British were behind it (don't want to spread the message that the little Russians can do this), but someone forgot to tell the bloke who runs the Z-bloggers. Hence the mixed messaging. I'm guessing of course.

But anything is possible as Russia continues to come under pressure. We may see more Russian on Russian action such as that in Scappa's post. I've seen unconfirmed reports of troops killing their commanding officers. As discipline breaks down, let's hope it's the beginning of a trend.

Russia currently at the UN criticising Israel for “unprovoked aggression against civilian populations in Iran”, apparently without any sort of irony

At some point, at some stage in the future, probably after the war is over (if we ever reach that point), I would like to see a really well-considered, well judged attempt at explaining why Russians consistently see a world that doesn't exist, and which is the polar opposite to all the available evidence.
