Hmmm, very widespread at a senior level and deeply inter-twingled. Not surprising in itself maybe, but surprising that the 'defenders of democracy ' have never worked hard enough to stop it.

I’d class that as a self-own and a succinct summary of the entire f***ing problem he’s created.
You mean he's openly admitting to helping/protecting Russia?

And anyway - I thought it was Zelensky who didn't hold the cards?? In which case - why does Putin/Russia need Trump's help. What is he protecting them from?

This is of course unacceptable, but I see this as a sign that Russia is concerned.

It really does look like it fears NATO expansion.

See what you think.

I disagree about Russia fearing Nato expansion, other than their concern it would impact their planned empire rebuild.

I actually wrote something along those lines a few weeks ago. Russia wants to remove the barriers (NATO) to its further expansion west.

So, while I agree with you, look at what it is asking for, however pie in the sky it is. There is more to this....

It is asking for a pledge, for Ukraine peace, to halt NATO enlargement. Not just Ukraine, but everywhere. What it isn't asking for, is less NATO (even though we agree that is what it really wants). It is asking for no more NATO expansion. It is concerned for its own security.

This is a nuance that isn't obvious. But it's an important one. Beneath the bravado and defiance, Russia thinks it is fighting an existential war. But not for Ukraine. For Russia.

Apologies in advance to anyone who thinks this is wishful thinking.

As Russia is so good at breaking treaties we could always agree then in a few years change our minds. Let's face it no way they will keep any said treaty

I remember not so long ago they wanted former Soviet states like the Baltics to give up NATO. So a slightly different line now. But you just can't trust them.

I completely disagree. Russia knows they won't be invaded. They pretend to be worried about Nato expansion as justification for their aggression and in an attempt to weaken their neighbours. There are people who actually believe that Nato expansion was part of the reason Russia invaded Ukraine.
