Bizarre name change before it even opens its now 'The Longshore'

Apparently Marstons called it 'The Houseboat' as a tribute to the local river houseboats & the unique character they bring to Shoreham.
Bizarrely, however, some of the houseboat owners objected, hence the signage change.

There seems to be a large model Seagull in front of the pub. I'm surprised they didn't decide to open on the 16th, Father's Day. I understand there is a party on the 15th (a rehersal?) for the regulars from the pub that the new managers have left.

Can someone in the know please tell me about the German war vessel that is now a houseboat.

Was it either a torpedo boat or a minesweeper?

It was a minesweeper of the post war West German Navy. There are plaques (of sorts) adjacent to the gangplank at the riverside walk giving more details of it and the MTB that it replaced.

Ah, so the minesweeper that is there now replaced a torpedo boat that used to be there?

It's a bit small for a Minesweeper, more probably a Motor Torpedo Boat, the German version of which is an E-Boat. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that a Minesweeper would draw far to much water to have made it that far over the mud banks.

I suggest you visit the boat itself and read the owner's account. I don't think it is any smaller than the RN minesweeper which used to be anchored in Shoreham Harbour at Maxwell Wharf.

How strange !!! Yet someone on here, and I can't remember who, slagged me off for suggesting the residents of Shoreham Beach were unfriendly and swingers !

I think it was more to do with confusion with the emergency services. If someone calls 999 and says there's a fire at the houseboat, they may think its one of the actual houseboats, or vice versa...

Maybe putting the word 'PUB' in the sentance may have given them a clue? Also as the only road to the houseboats would take you past 'The HouseBoat / Longshore' means that surely it is a lame excuse.
