following on from the flying to plymouth thread i thought i would suggest this idea. i am currently training for my private pilots license i am thinking of flying to these sorts of games. would anyone be interested in purchasing a plane ticket? I wouldn't be looking to make a profit but to just break even. This is an idea in a very premature state, i just wanted people's opinions on this.

Thanks

no because i am not making money from it. the other people would just be helping to pay for the fees involved like fuel, parking etc.

Ah I see in that case good idea If prices work out resonable after hire of plane fuel landing fee ect and keeps your flying hours up, chuck in an Albion win and it's a cracking day out, flew to le harve to watch the Albion and it was a great way to travel

Is there a limit to how many passengers you are allowed onboard?

Presumably, unless he drives one of these badboys...

What an absolutely crackin' idea Mr S! I reckon a 747 might just about do it.

3 + the pilot. Although you will find that in most instances a, for example, PA28 with 4 adults and full load of fuel may well be getting very close to the maximum take off weight. If you were to be flying out of a small airfield or a grass runway you may well struggle to both take off and to land.

Lots of practical problems like the weather. I missed the epic visit to Newcastle because of this.

Also true. As a newly qualified ppl smuggles is highly unlikely to have an instrument rating. Meaning vfr, normally by day. Which means that any match after about the end of August is out because you wouldn't get back in time, or you would have to stay the night.

A mate of mine briefly looked into doing this for Carlisle away a few seasons ago, the cost was getting on for a 3-er and the plane would have to land halfway to refuel. If you can solve these and all the other problems mentioned I might be interested.

i wasn't sure about carlisle becuase it seems a bit too far. if i would need to refuel halfway, the costs would be massive

hiring of the plane would make it way to expensive. at the moment i hire a two seater for £118 and then i pay £20 for the instructor, so i costs would be well over £1000 if i hired like this. I'm sure there is a way to hire a plane for the day, although i have been looking into buying my own one

I think you probably need to get real first.

That will take years, huge cost, and still doesn't overcome all the other barriers mentioned on here.

Just get your PPL and enjoy the odd 2 hour jaunt here and there. But you will never be flying commercial light aircraft in the dark, refuelling, at such a huge cost, and then coming to home to say "that was the best and most convenient way to do it".

get real, quickly.
