Hove innit, you mug.
I think you probably need to get real first.

That will take years, huge cost, and still doesn't overcome all the other barriers mentioned on here.

Just get your PPL and enjoy the odd 2 hour jaunt here and there. But you will never be flying commercial light aircraft in the dark, refuelling, at such a huge cost, and then coming to home to say "that was the best and most convenient way to do it".

get real, quickly.

You miserable git. The lad comes on here offering albion fans a different way of getting to game. He never mentioned it was either cheap, efficient or money making.

I'm sure he appreicates your patronising and jaunty respnose though.

I'm not having a go at anyone. I'm just saying that taking into account all the barriers it is a complete non-starter, and a pointless thread.

It's not a non-starter. He needs an additional 5 hours for his night rating which must include one hour navigation at night, 5 take offs and landings as PIC, can be done in one hour. If he then wants to go IFR he will need to complete quite alot more flying as PIC and once that is done he can go comms.

He does not need comms to carry passengers who are contributing on a shared cost basis.

It's a bit hopeful to do it as quickly as he seems to want to do it but it is by no means unreasonable to try.

how far can you realistically travel without having to re-fuel?

A PA28, piper warrior, or a Cessna 172 can realistically travel for about 4.5 to 5 hours before re-fuelling depending on how you fly. Cruising speed for a 172 is about 90 mph so you are looking at about 400 to 450 miles. All this depends on air speed and direction, headwind and you travel less far, tail wind and you travel further.

I'm currently planning, just for fun, a route from Thruxton direct to East Midlands and, including the climb, cruise and descent I reckon I could make it there and back easily on one fuel load. And it would take about 1.5 hours each way.

Carslisle is perhaps a bit far but Manchester, Barton or similar, is easily makeable.

insurance invalid as anon-fare paying passenger - would you still fly with him?

Not necessarily it's not.

If you mean life insurance then that would depend on the exact wording of the policy I agree but insurance is not automatically invalid.

And yes, I would. I fly with myself so why not with him once he's passed his licence.

that's good then. you just need a clear day, somewhere to refuel, somewhere to land and park, transport from airport to ground and back, and a burger and fries.

oh, and about 3 grand or so for a bog standard league one away game. If you have that sort of cash, I salute you and I'm sure you and the other tourists will have a great time.

You've got to have a dream.
If you don't have a dream
How are you going to make a dream come true?

Sounds like a great idea and i can assure, you are coming accross very aggressively in your responses. If you can't see that, i suggest you go and see a specialist.

Anyways, can you explain how it could cost that sort of money for any away trip to say, Birmingham? I'm not suggesting it doesn't, i'd just like to know the breakdown of it and why/how anyone other than the megarich can afford any sort of plane?
