Just for fun I did a rough calculatiuon on Fairoaks to Carslisle in a cessna 172.

Flight time, approximately 2 hours although this may increase slightly if you have to avoid controlled airspace or any airspace is closed like Silverstone is during the grand prix.
Fuel burn, approximately 24 gallons, see above for variations.

On the basis that I can hire a 172 for £118 per hour wet or so including vat I make that price something in the region of £700. Split between 4 people about £200 each rouding up to allow for unexpected diversions or adverse wind conditions and the like.

Birmingham would be quite significantly less, it's about 1 hour in the air or so, but there is no way you could land at Birmingham International so you would need to land at a small airfield and find transport into the city.

From memory there are landing fees and other expenses and this (back in the 1970s) was the bulk of the expense from Shoreham to Newcastle.
