It’s probably worth paying very close attention to the table next weekend. We could spend the World Cup break in any position from 5th to 10th. It’s highly likely Palace will overtake us if we don’t get a result from Villa. A big, big weekend as part one of the 22/23 season comes to an end.

Some maybe gets that satisfaction, others might not.

Mind you, I don't think I'm losing out - I think when I really start watching the league table (when there's 8 or so rounds to go), I think Brighton will still be in a very nice position in the league table.
I agree completely with you that Brighton fans would get that satisfaction from looking at the table, people who aren't Brighton fans wouldn't.

Same as I would look at La Liga, the Bundesliga or Serie A tables a couple of times a season to see how Rayo Vallecano, Cadiz, Augsberg, Hoffenheim, Salernitana or Lecce are doing.

I think the difference between us though is that I wouldn't spend hours every day on their various fans forums making thousands of posts about a team I didn't support because they once had a manager I liked

Another difference might be that I'm not crying with rage over how many times someone looks or does not look at a league table.

As I've said, I look at it once a week or so. It looks great imo. But - and this is something I've said for the last three seasons - I don't find it particularly interesting until it is really settling down and we could take about league titles, qualifications for Europe, relegation battles etc. Way too early for that, so I don't make a meal out of current standings in early November. If you want to be all worked up about it, fine.

I just struggle to see how it is all that controversial, and if I knew that people would be very upset about it I wouldn't have said anything at all from the get-go, because it's not really that important. You can all watch the league tables 24/7 if you want, it really doesn't bother me.

Again, apologies for all the hurt feelings I've apparently caused with my attitude towards pre-midseason league tables.

If you still find yourself angry, just use some willpower and imagine my reply being "once in a while but increasingly often later on in the season" rather than the current "not often. Don't find league tables too interesting before the final two months or so of a season".

I throw a quick look at it every week but the whole "I hope this and this team draw, this team lose, this team win, both these lose" just because it causes a short, temprorary advantage in the table somehow... I don't really see the point tbh. As long as Brighton gets three points on a fairly regular basis it will be fine in the end, regardless of what every other team is or isn't doing.
I partly agree with you.

In that, I for one, don’t look at other fixtures to see where we might be at the end of a weekend. Life’s too short or busy for me.

But I do check out the EPL table from time to time just to get affirmation that us Sussex lads and lasses aren’t dreaming, we’re in a great place. Very calming.

Don't worry, you haven't hurt my feelings at all and I don't find myself 'angry' in the least as I can always look at the league table to cheer me up, but it does appear someone is getting a little fraught

Maybe a nice spliff and pepperoni will help (y)

Between now and then I will be looking at the table approximately 17,000 times. Nice to see that we've played most of the current top ten as well, the only one we haven't is Arsenal.
They’re rubbish. Could only score one past Chelsea.
I find that post unfair. Would you call someone a bore to their face in real life?
I probably would if I felt they kept butting in to my conversations with friends.

Finishing position is of course the only thing that really matters, just as goals are all that really matter in a game, but the ups and downs, back and forths on the journey can be of interest, even to neutrals.

Absolutely brother. The journey IS the game at the end of the day. If it wasn't about the journey then why would we bother watching, we'd just wait until the season is over and find out how we'd done - what would be the point of that? The journey is everything, in any endeavour.

I like Swanny, but I guess he's not interested in the table because he doesn't actually support the team. And that's fine. I never bothered looking at the PL table when we were in the Championship, and I never looked at the Championship table when we were in League 1, nor now we're in the Prem. I feel that Swansman is following the journey of Potter, so any given season isn't really important.

When you've lived through this and more, you check the league table every day for the last 10 years at least and currently every few minutes.

Loving the table. Bit annoying that palace are only 2 points behind us though. They are having a pretty good season.
Looking at 'The Other 14' on Twitter (using fixture difficulty) Palace are +4 points ahead of where they should be, and we are +9. So that 2 point gap in the table is probably bigger in reality, since we've played tougher fixtures.

Worth bearing in mind that in recent seasons we seem to struggle against the poorer teams, so I'm still feeling cautious :)

That surprised me as Palace have played, Man City, Liverpool, Newcastle away and Chelsea and Arsenal at home, all a bit tricky.

WHY IS EVERY f***ing THREAD DE-RAILED BY PEOPLE ARGUEING WITH SWANSMAN. THIS BOARD IS BECOMING UNBEARABLE BECAUSE OF IT.
Couldn't agree more. If a different poster had written a reply as innocuous as his it would barely have got a reply. But some people see the name Swansman and just have to get a dig in. And then the thread gets derailed.

It was difficult when we were 4th and felt like hadn’t played enough games or quite the bigger teams when actually it was a pretty average spread in our opening 6 games. Since then we’ve had a tricky run and I’m amazed we’re as high as we are. If we could just beat the likes of Fulham and Forrest I bet we’d qualify for Europe over a season. Something like 8th would still be a big achievement though if we were best of the rest outside 6 plus Blood/OilMoney Newcastle. Sadly I suspect the big sides who are having a bad time right now my squeak us over the 38 games unless we do better against bottom sides but still lovely.

Would love to see us buy one more cracking, ready for Europe level player at Christmas whilst not loosing anyone. Marlon Santos da Silva Barbosa the CB my bet as followed our manager already and in a bit of an odd loan position right now.

Love checking the table, 1/3rd of season gone, more than halfway to another season in the PL with points won. Despite crucial players departing along with the entire coaching team.

Remarkable, much bigger story than Newcastle being turd.

5 teams going onto compete in the PL from that table, amazing. Wonder if there's ever been more from the bottom division or whether there's ever been another team that have done so after finishing second bottom

Currently joint top of that table.

Top ten again would be a monumentally successful season given the asset stripping. I'm not sure DeZerbi would agree with that though, which makes things all the more exciting.
