Villa were shit and that was unforgivable from us.

My big concern is we don’t have good enough players to match the managers system and get required results, compounded by managers inability to adjust to the players skill levels. You should only continue so long expecting a different result with the same ingredients before trying plan B. We appear to have neither players or plan in that respect. Without change, I can only see us being relegated from what I’ve seen of late.

Deja vu, we have this debate every few months.

The published and audited accounts of ManU and Chelsea to name just two, show huge payouts to sacked management teams, contracts paid up in full. ManU’s latest accounts for example. [MENTION=11928]vegster[/MENTION] is correct?



I realise that you are correct that sacked managers don’t normally get double pay, when they take their next lucrative job.

To be honest, I don't really follow the technical side of the game. Get stuck in, clatter the man and win the ball, hoof it out to the wing or directly to the big number nine, bish bosh, goal.

If Potter is now not demanding that another striker is brought in this window he's failing. The strike force we currently have is not good enough and will see us relegated

But it was good at the beginning of the season, we are not creating as many chances. What striker should we buy? We will still be having the same problem. We are going through a bad patch at the moment, I still believe we will be safe at the end of the season.

I understand his philosophy and I support it. However, I don’t get why we insist on playing out from the back literally every single time we gain possession. That moment in the first half when Webster played a bad, bouncing ball across our box to Dunk who then elected to send an even worse, looping backpass to Ryan inside our six yard box was ridiculous and screamed of a team that has been told to play out at ALL costs, regardless of the consequences. I have two problems with that:

1) The opposition adapt to what we’re doing. Today, Villa just started pressing us higher up the pitch and by persevering with our plan we couldn’t get out. More of the game started to be played in our last third and we had no answer. Surely you need to be able to play a longer pass at some point to mix things up and keep the opposition in two minds?

2) Even when we do play out and work our way past the opposition’s front three/four men, we don’t have the drive and vision in midfield to take advantage of it by launching a quick attack. Instead, we dither and dawdle and allow that front three/four back into the game, making the whole process pointless. If we had intent to counter attack in the second half today we’d have scored at least one more goal as Villa frequently committed too many men forward but we didn’t even try to exploit it.

Excellent analysis and I agree. When we lose confidence you can see the players are trying to visualise a strategy they have had drilled into them, but quite often they either can't remember the drill, or they have been out-thought by the opposition.

Being mentally as well as physically fluid, however, requires 100 mill players. Oh, hang on....Sheffield United.....

I can tell you 100% he is not correct - I have explained in another thread what happens. That example shown gives no breakdown of how many staff that related to in any given accounting period. There are many high earning Employees who leave Clubs not just Managers/Coaches.

There is a formula adhered to an it is NOT 100% pay up of salary - Formulas are for the most part agreed to by the LMA and the Clubs to deter Litigation. That why you only get 1 or 2 cases going as far as the Litigation process and even the ones that do. Even they never win full 100% payouts.

The only one I have ever heard of who ever got 100% payout was Kevin Keegan when he terminated his post at Newcastle

I don't know what's going on but, to probably state the obvious, we have no cutting edge. I don't know if that's a failure of Potter or something else, or nothing and just how it is.

Everyone we play at the moment is playing very tight in defence, or that's how it seems. We just can't find a way through.

Yes I think, we think we are a lot better than we actually are.

We are clever at our passing game, which the radio 5 live commentator said after the game, but really struggle with teams running at us and obviously converting what little chances we create.

I don’t think we will go down, but finding another 15 points will be difficult as the really bad month for games is approaching

I'm not sure I agree with this. Several times we played long balls from the back, most of the time seemingly out of desperation.
