Totally agree, the way we conceded ground and procession in the last 30 mins was frankly embarrassing against a woeful team. Gus said in his interview that he agreed with us being too deep. If that was the case why didn't he tell the forward players to move up. He obviously didn't tell Barnes who played much of his time at left back. Talk about putting yourself under pressure.

An annoying women in row behind me (WSU) was bleating on about the Cov players were pressurising ours, as if nothing could be done.
No. We should have pressed back, and all fought like CMS, to close them down.

During the game, an awful Cov team got about 20 crosses in, some unchallenged. Teams with great centre forwards will take note.

Vincelot 7

Barnes 6.5

It was a game where no one shone, and no one played badly. Navarro, Paynter, Painter and Harley seem to be the flavour of the month for the NSC moaners but they were no better and no worse than any of the other players. It was a run of the mill win against a side destined to go down.

Coventry were poor, though not as poor as Watford who beat us.

These Harley ratings are ridiculous. He was CLASS today, showed for the ball all the time, some LOVELY touches & I even saw him THROWING himself into tackles.

Yeah not everything came off, but he was near to MOM for me.

Think he needs more time on the pitch rather than more money in his wallet!!

Thought Navarro and Bridcutt worked well together doing the stuff that mostly goes unnoticed. Harley had a strong game too.

Ankergren 6 -needs to command 6 yard box more!
Calderon 6 - sloppy at times
Vincelot 6.5 -as above but good goal
Greer 6- mistake played part in away goal.
Dunk 6- ok but too casual at times in possession and will get punished against better teams.
Navarro 6- tidy game, but could have checked run from deep for Coventry goal
Bridcutt - as Navarro
Harley 7 - best game yet, will improve and hopefully will get eye for goal.
Noone 8-MOM.typical workrate and desire, easily our most creative player.
CMS- 7 Usual industry and hunger-needs a goal!
Paynter 6 not as bad as mentioned already-give him a fuckin break.

Lua Lua 6 -needs midfield service to fullfill obvious promise
Barnes 6 needs to match CMS workrate especially when coming on fresh for the last 20 .

Ankergren 6 Better distribution than in the past and caught more balls perhaps he has been listening to the coaches.
Calderon 5 Ok going forward but his first touch to bring the ball under control is awful.
Greer 7 Mr Reliable as usual
Dunk 5 Gets caught too often trying to take players out wide
Painter 5 Not on long enough but did ok while he was on the pitch.
Bridcut 7 Reliable as always
Navarro 7 His best game since coming back from his injury
Harley 7 Very good game , his best so far for us.
Noone 7 Good at taking ona player but final ball not brilliant but his shooting was better today.
CMS 8 MOM and a constant threat to Coventry
Paynter 5 Seems to be off of the pace but held the ball up well a few times.

Subs

Vincelot 6 Good goal but siuspect going down the wing on his left foot conseqiuently gave the ball away too much.
Barnes 6 Plenty of energy when he came on and looked up for it when he came on to show he is worth a start.
Lua Lua 5 Not on long enough to impress but tackled back well so an improvemnt on that score.

NSC back to the bizarre marking system that awards the goalkeeper a low mark because he had nothing to do.

I'd start with 10 for all players and take marks off for what they did wrong.

I thought Harley played well today by the way.

Calderon's touch improved in the second half when he was the other side of the pitch from the manager. Watching highlights on Sky it did seem that the Coventry goal was scored by the man Navarro should have tracked but apart from that he was steady. Vincelot out of position passed the ball into touch with his left foot and Harley gets better each time I see him. Even more involved again today. Barnes was obviously playing under instruction to cover the space in front of the full back and was not too anxious to get forward. Brighton just drop too far back when defending which gives the opposition so much space.

Harley and Paynter are guilty too often of standing and waiting for the ball to arrive at their feet. When there's only a 50 - 50 chance of getting the ball, neither will bother (compare to CMS who will have a go even if there's only a 20 - 80% chance of getting it). How much of this is attitude and how much can be coached out of them is up for debate, but we can't afford players like this on the pitch, particularly as it often means that we lose possession.

I am also worried that we have so few goal-scoring chances and we're not a big team, so anyone who is capable of winning headers in the box from corners/free kicks (and Greer and Dunk seem to be there more to create a nuisance than anything) theh we we should seriously consider playing them. I'd like to see Vincelot given a lot more games.

Is it just me or are we marking CMS far to high. Yes you really can't fault his work rate and he just doesn't stop but surely you want a bit more from your front man.

The goal, yes he was put in nicely by Coventry but he has to finish one on one. Also his first touch is lacking at times.

Maybe I'm being harsh but making him Man Of The Match ever week for running and commitment really speaks volumes for the way we are playing.
