I have read nothing on her website that impresses me sufficiently to vote for her she doesn't appear to have had much business organisation experience and nothing whatsoever to do with fighting crime. Perhaps you could give us more details of her experience.

I will pass on your comments.

I'm impressed by the fact that her website talks about her contribution to the community, by being a governor of "two Sussex Schools". Only one of them is mentioned by name - Oriel High School, in Crawley. The one she doesn't name is ... Roedean.

The seaside.
Sadly she will get in. How much is this costing. 220k salaries plus election costs etc in each police authority. So what, a million quid plus? How many coppers on the beat would that have provided for, Katy?

Hi Katy

Nice of you to join us. I notice from your website that you plan to put a special constable in every village to "reconnect the public with their local bobby".

Can I ask- and I like to think I have a pretty good perspective here- how you think someone who works a shift or two per month on a voluntary basis is possibly going to reconnect anybody at all, let alone an entire village, or whether that particular idea was just a randomly generated soundbite designed to win votes?

Hi Katy. I've had a look at your website and noticed the following were your priorities:

- Cutting crime & catching more criminals – ensuring we are all ‘Safer In Sussex’
- Visible & effective neighbourhood policing – putting a ‘Special Constable’ in every rural village to re-connect the public with their ‘local Bobby’
- Putting the victim back at the heart of the Criminal Justice System
- Tackling anti-social behaviour and domestic violence
- Delivering value for money from our police force

The only one of these that is not a complete platitude is the second one. Please explain more clearly why you deserve our votes. Many thanks.

Edit: And even the second one is a bit ropey, as pointed out by Edna. More information would be appreciated.

Is that a sin? Being a governor of a public school?

Hey you lot stop complaining! Our Conservative PCC candidate in Hampshire is Michael Mates. :wozza:

Speaking as a resident of a rural village and a former parish councillor who had regular contact with the Police Community Support Officers who were responsible for responding to community concerns out our way, can I just say that it would be a complete waste of money for Sussex Police to allocate a full-time (or part-time) 'local Bobby' to every village in Sussex?

There's simply not enough village level crime to justify such extravagance, nor is there that much fear of crime. In any event, rural crimes are mostly better dealt with by calling in specialist officers who are experienced in covering much wider areas than 'the village'.

This is the sort of idea that appeals to the Tory strategists who plan election campaigns - but it's useless as a strategy to reduce rural crime.
