Of course he can do what he wants and of course we can comment on it.
What is so disappointing is the waste of talent, I'd love to be a footballer, but unfortunately I'm rubbish, so to see someone with tonnes of talent saying he can't be arsed pisses me right off.

He knows what football means to the people of this country and its very disappointing that he has decided not to contribute to making our national team a success, whilst happily playing for that twat Ferguson.

He has given 7 years of his life to England and has contributed loads to England's recent 'successes' and now wants to spend some more time with his family because his England career has shortened the time he can spend with his wife and kids. What is so unreasonable about that?

I just think it deepens the club before Country argument.
I know loads of fans who think it's more important to win the Premiershite than the world cup.
I personally dont agree with that attitude, although I can understand it.

When you say he's given 7 years of his life to England, surely it isn't too hard is it to play the odd game of football?

He also plays for Man United, which is a handsome enough reason to dislike him on its own.

Why? Why should he do that? For our benefit? f*** that, he wants to retire for his own reasons, he doesn't owe us SHIT and is quite within his rights as a HUMAN BEING to do what HE wants with his life, not what his critics want.

These people are humans, people seem to forget that very easily.

I'm not forgetting he's a human being - of course not but I don't think that's any sort of argument. You can say that about anyone can't you.

Yes he can do what he like but I'm entitled to say that I think he's going to regret this. I think he's wasting his talent when he could be making a lot of people happy by playing for England. Besides, if you're a top sportsmen you should strife to improve your performance all the time. Isn't that part of the point of professional sport? Scholes, in my opinion, should be doing that.

If there were better players waiting to take his place then fair enough but there aren't. England needs him but really he's just not that bothered is he. His attitude is a disgrace.

Unless you are playing 50 odd a season plus a major tournament every 2 years...

We're not gonna agree are we?

If that were the real reason it would be admirable.

Spend more time with the family? At the age of about 35 Scholes can spend the rest of every waking hour of every waking day with his family as he will then be properly retired. Also, Scholes hardly has the most taxing of jobs. In for training at 10, home by 3 - Im sure he's even got time to do the school run if he really wanted to. (Although I cant imagine Ruud, Scholes and the Neville brothers waiting outside Salford high for their offspring)

Spend time with the family means to me, 1 or other of these comments;

(1) He is fed up about his mate Rio's treatment by the FA.
(2) He can no longer be bothered putting the hours in for his country
(3) He realises that he can extend his earning power for an extra year or 2 without the demands of international football.

We can argue over his reasons all day long but in reality nobody knows why he has quit but Paul himself and I tend to take a better view of people rather than think the worst of them if I can and choose to in this case. If you think otherwise then fine.

That's the last I'm gonna say on the matter.

i think your complete out of order there. Scholes has made what im sure was a geniune and difficult decision to stop playing for his country. Im sure he's recognised that his top form has gone and has done the decent thing by stepping aside so some of the considerable talent we have in this country has a crack at getting a first team spot.

I wish more internationals whould know when to stop and make way for the next generation, rather than rely on their past glories and status in the game to play another tournament.

I don't know or care how old his kids are. This is his decsion, and his alone. If Mr. Scholes wishes to spend more time with his family no one can condone his thoughts.

I would think the life of the professional footballer can at times be a wrench to family life. A player like Scholes, appears to me to be in love with the game, and therefore that would put a compromise on family life.

Ginger twat! Whatever happened to pride when representing your country!

There is no doubt that this is a Fergie & Scumchester United influenced decision. The irony is that in recent times he has not performed so Englanf won't miss him!

Oh and in the meantime Gary Neville's bird is playing away! So much for the cash if you are a Manc bore eh!:D

I think you will find he is the one we will miss the most. His so called poor performances are down to being stucked out on the left. When he has been played behind the front 2 he has been lethal, hence why both Hoddle and Keegan deployed him there.

Such a decision at 29 years old is clearly indicative of his heart (and wallet) not being in it regardless of where he plays.

All the reasons about family are utter shite! He is a professional sportsman and as such knows sacrifices have to be made. And lets not forget he is handsomely rewarded and arguably sety up for life. He has years ahead to spend time with his family.
