Bringing his wife's suicide into it is particularly low. I'm sure it's been a very difficult time for him, and I'm sure she was affected by the investigation. But the investigators aren't to blame for that, there wouldn't be an investigation if he didn't break the rules (which he either did knowingly, or ignorantly - neither of which is acceptable as an MP)

I see the U-turn has occurred

But when will the public ever wake up to what's being done to us?

my question would be what percentage of the voting public still find the idea of Jeremy Corbyn in No 10 the greater evil?

Or rampant loser regulated capitalism and government corruption is still preferable to even a hint of the idea of socialism?

How bad does it need to get?

Yes, a full fat U turn.

I cannot condone vandalism against Tory offices. I would say that even the West Worthing Conservatives " Office " in Tarring Road has had metal shutters and a camera up outside for several years.... The only one along the road?

Do Tory members and politicians ever wonder why these sort of attacks happen despite them firmly believing that they have the best interests of the whole of our society at heart?

I think you are a couple of years out of date.

I haven't seen any pics of said vandalism, but wonder if some Tory donors have been on the phone to their respective MPs with some disquiet.

Not only is Patterson a crook, he is a thick crook.

A 30 day suspension for corruptly obtaining hundreds of thousands of pounds. Anybody with any sense would have shut up, accepted the minor slap on the wrist, and thought to themselves "**** me, got off light there".

A bit like you get pulled over by old bill for being a little bit naughty. The cop wants to give you "words of advice" and a roadside warning. Instead of saying "sorry" you shout and swear at the OB claiming you have done absolutely nothing wrong, so the cop gives you 3 points and a fine. Patterson is THAT stupid.

How many of us have employers who would merely suspend us for 30 days if we had done side deals with customers / clients that had earned us a small fortune?

Playing the sympathy card at this late stage just makes Patterson even more stupid. Claiming the investigation contributed to his wife's suicide is a nonsense. If he hadn't been corrupt, there would never have been an investigation.

Corrupt AND stupid. But let's face it, he isn't the only one. Made in Johnson's image.

It’s also highlighted the episode to voters in his constituency, making it more likely that the threshold of 10% of voters signing the recall petition will be reached during the 6 week period.

I can currently find one news report of an MPs office being vandalised.

Peter Bone's office had "Tory sleaze" sprayed on it after he voted to let his pal Patterson off the hook yesterday.

In the general scheme of things..............

So Johnson is presumably claiming that the mob has brought about his humiliating climbdown. If that is the case, more power to the mob.

Hopefully this recent shit show will embolden the few Tory backbenchers with a moral compass to vote against similar bullshit.

His statement to the Shropshire Star at the time belies that.

It's not incompetence (although this government is clearly incompetent)
It's not lack of vetting

It's clear and simple corruption

Yes. Corruption.

There is incompetence there too. There was the award of 13.8 million to a ferry company that owned no ships, with the final bill in the tens of millions. I won't post a link because this is in the recent past, and I don't wish to gift the JCFG gang an excuse to pile into this thread with the usual gleeful whataboutery.

I am astonished that it has taken this long, though.

All that will happen is that Johnson will bring in a new amendment that is more palatable to the public and Tory MP'S which will hide some of the more corrupt get outs deep within the wording.

Tory MP'S will then be encouraged to support it and the frighteners will be put on those few more liberal Tory's who may be dithering.... It will pass with a majority of 60-70 and the Tory shit show rolls on as before.

Indeed. Labour has moved on, thankfully.

I am still expecting, though, that one of the usual suspects will post 'whatabout Jeremy Corbyn?' on this thread soon.

I think the appropriate reply is 'notabout Jeremy Corbyn'.

FFS.

Sadly, last night revealed that they have fast gone the way of the Republican Party. They're all worried about the Covid inquest - and the lobbying that got their donors and mates all of the plum contracts. They won't miss an opportunity to stymie the Standards Committee...

Yup and I heard on the radio this morning that Michael Gove's parliamentary secretary has been sacked for not voting in line with the whip.

Principles? What principles?
