Just keeping this up to date as the rest of the press outside The Argus/Athletic start to lose faith..

Daily Record: July 18th: "Registered an interest"
Daily Mail: McGowan: July 25th "will make £20m bid after qualifier"
Daily Record: Castles - July 27th "submitted a bid"
Daily Mail: McGowan - Aug 6th "Finally submitted a bid"
Daily Mail: McGowan - Aug 11th "hopes of quick Brighton deal have diminished"
*new* Scottish Sun: Alan Nixon - Aug 15th His wages are a bit rich as they now search elsewhere"

or just this for reference...
The Argus: July 24th: Brian Owen quoting club source on links "“Reports that keep emerging are completely false.”

Either: we’re not interested OR: we’re playing the long game and hoping Celtic’s price drops as the alternatives fall away (vs getting nothing next year) AND his wage demands drop as his alternatives fall away (Roma, Villa, Saints), as they sign other options. West Ham probably most likely.

The price will drop even more if he's still at Celtic by Christmas! Then we might have to decide if we want a player who's sulking about only getting £50K a week when he wants (allegedly) £85K.
Or somebody else will have met all of his and Celtic's demands.

The Scottish press are pretty much mentioning us in every article written about Edouard leaving, here is one from today.

Clearly we’re not going to pay £20m for someone who is out of contract next season. But this article insinuates that Celtic will have to take what they can get. I’m looking forward to seeing where our interest is once Celtic admit defeat and are willing to accept a fee which represents the contractual length the player has left.

Where has the 85k figure come from?

Is it believable?
Or is it a made up figure just plucked out of the air?

Maybe, a bit like Harry Kane refusing to train that the media were convinced was kosher.

There's no new reporting in that piece - its a few quotes from his Express column. Actually in the scottish papers - despite all that initial flurry of reporting of bids imminent or finally being submitted in a few weeks ago - all denied by sources close to the club - the last update from the Scottish Sun at weekend was that Albion are "looking elsewhere", there's been no new reporting on Albion interest (there is no interest according to reliable outlets) from the Record in over 10 days and the scottish mail a week ago was :"hopes of a deal have diminished"..

Its come from presumably the same outlets and sources as stories that reported we'd submitted a £20m bid.

The £85K figure has been floating around for a few days now - no idea of the original sauce though.

Tbh if he does want £85K per week I suspect we would walk away……….and that’s IF we were ever in there in the first place
£85K per week explains albion's "no interest".

If he drops his wage demands we might get interested, until then we are unlikely to even bid.

Someone mentioned it on here therefore it is now FACT and will be mentioned as if it's the undeniable truth forever more. That's how NSC works.

.

Well wage demands might well be the reason but thats not whats been reported by Owen / Naylor.
It could be they have moved onto other targets, he's not the type of striker Graham has asked for or other things but their reporting hasn't been that explicit apart from knocking back talk of bids and interest.
PS: The source for the 85K figure is Alan Nixon from the Sun. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sp...edouard-wage-demands-premier-league-transfer/
