Non of that matters when it comes to stand-off weapons that the US has in abundance. The first wave ( not that there is going to be), will be from way out of range. Conventional cruise and anti-radar missiles will simply dilute their capability to negligible levels. Then if they launch their entirely land based air force, they will either be picked off by the US ainti-aircraft capability ( missiles, jets etc)... or they will run out of fuel before they get near a US asset.

They will more likely attach the South Korean forces, but even then, they have no stealth capability, and will be picked off in large numbers.

Just get real Mustafa.

Have to agree most anti aircraft/missile capabilities are over rated and are more for propoganda and keeping the home population reassured. One of the first targets in air military engagment are the radar installations essentially blinding your air defenses and this will still be possible with the bunker buster armaments available to the US. The US may not win a war with North Korea but they wont loss either andthe Korean will definately suffer more colateral damage.

Will be interesting to see if the Chinese and / or Russians intervene to calm down N. Korea or turn a blind eye. They have plenty of 'previous' from the Korean War in the '50s.

The Russians piloted most of the N. Korean airforce MIG fighters and the Chinese army provided huge numbers on the ground in response to the Americans sending in lots of 'advisers'. Things gradually escalated (just like in Vietnam 10 years later) and the North almost prevailed until the US started bombing infrastructure. Even so the US nominally set a limit on how far North it would attack through fear of provoking the Chinese. Then of course a few rogue US flights accidently crossed ths line and bombed power stations close to and just over the Chinese border which gave the Chinese an excuse to become involved. Some horrific fighting with many British and Commonwealth casualties.

Of course it was during the cold war so was perilously close to the brink of becoming WWIII. Hopefully they will row back from conflict this time.

Using footballing metaphors we (the Brits) are showing useful recent form, especially away from home, in Iraq (twice), Libya and the Balkans. However Afghanistan looks like being a score draw, despite a valiant effort by our team. A strong showing in Korea would leave us in good form going into any play-offs with Argentina.

Unfortunately the squad is looking a bit thin as Cameron has cut back on the defence budget and we sold off our best strikers (the Harriers) leaving us with a weakened attack but if the Argies want to get a bit dirty we still have a mix of experience and talent to prevail, even if it goes to a penalty shoot-out.

Obviously you missed out on the Vietnam debacle... or perhaps neglecting to consider how the Iraq war spanned over a decade with no real conclusion.

Well... North Korea's army pisses on both of these, it's not even comparable. In fact it pisses on practically every army in the world in number.

Remember, this is the most prepared country in the world for war, without exception. Even every single civilian is prepared and willing to fight - American control of any region would be impossible. I would even say that even if they had a fraction of the military tech, they would still win just as Vietnam did - such is the mentality of its army and peoples. The fact that they can bring down jets, destroy tanks and even bomb overseas territory is just a bonus for them.

You suggest that the high tech stealth bombers & jet fighters would be the difference, but they wouldn't - These things have NEVER won a war, ever. What wins wars is gaining territory on the land - and there is absolutely no way the US or anyone else in the world could possibly do that against this in this particular country. Strategic bombings of key buildings would be nothing more than a hindrance to them, and to be fair - they're even prepared for that.

The reason North Korea gives it the biggun is because they know that nobody will want to war with them, no other nation is so obsessively dedicated to warfare like they are - and probably no nation would be able to defeat them, without the use of a nuclear bomb.

Starve them out, they'll last six months max. They're hungry already, drop a few bombs and they'll soon run out of gas. I think you're overrating them.

It always scares me when someone so looney (as clearly you are) knows so much about military hardwear and MANPADS and other stuff with weird acronyms!
