It defies belief how much people moan about things on this place. I swear there are some people on here that would LOVE it if we didn't sign anyone and resigned ourselves to possible relegation next year, if it meant they could have yet another pop at 'Dick Tight'. Nicky Forster has played at a higher level than this CONSTANTLY since Reading got promoted with us in 2002. He has scored goals wherever he has gone and the fact he is 32 is actually an ADVANTAGE in my opinion.

I agree. People are ALWAYS moaning on here about our inexperienced youngsters and how we never buy "tried and tested" players. And now they're moaning that Forster is too old! 32 is really not that old anyway, and it's not as if pace is a big aspect of his game. Since, for obvious reasons, we struggle to attract the players who are 'too good for this division" I for one think Forster would be a bloody good signing. Let's hope it happens

I notice Kevin Campbell has been released by Cardiff, would be a great signing IMO, but I imagine we won't be able to meet his wage demands

I'm sure you're right and I agree he would be a good signing. However it's quite strange to me that many players try to hang out for more money when it's clear to most managers that they are over the hill.

Even if we pay £125k for him and only get 1 season out of him providing that 1 season gets us back into the Championship he would have proved a worthwhile purchase.

This is a calculated risk that we must take.

I agree 100% and if it's not on him then someone else who is an experienced striker to inspire fans to get back to turning out to support the Albion. A decent experienced striker and a couple of early wins would see most of the money recouped in ticket sales over the next few weeks imo. 2k minimum on the gate after a good start and some entertaining football I reckon.

I think that its not only the 15 goals he may get, which is more than any of our strikers this season, but his experience may pay dividends and help the likes of Revell, Elder and Robinson to score more goals. If 3 of our players get 15 goals we will be in a good position for promotion and to recoup his fee.

I agree we will have to take a risk, because clearly we will not sign anyone who is GUARANTEED to score the goals to win a promotion single-handedly. But, do you think a 33 year old with a history of injuries is the best bet? As I said I think he would be good for us, but not to the extent where he would turn us into a top team overnight. I reckon he's a 15-18 goal a season man now, which is ok, but not worth the money in my opinion when he's only going to have 2 seasons left in him max.

I do see your point, however Its a case off beggers cant be choosers I feel.

32 is no problem if we pick him up for free or, say, a maximum of £50k. It is a problem if we pay upwards of £100k for him though. The issue is, I am sure he's a good player, and I'm sure he's better than anything we already have, but when it comes to selling him or looking to get rid, he is going to be 34 or 35 so we will obviously see zero return on our money. For a club like us, I don't think a hefty transfer fee AND his wages for a couple of years followed by no return is good business sense, unless the player is guaranteed to score 25 goals a season and get us promoted - which, in my opinion, Forster probably wouldn't.

Correct me if I,m wrong....but even if we signed someone over 24 for £125k for two years, that player would be eligible to transfer to another club when his contract finished, for free.

If buying Forster gets an extra 200 people to every home game next season, that would easily cancel out a £100k fee.
