Murray - should he stay or should he go? LOL!

What "Murray void"? A void that would have contributed five goals? A void that has proved he just isn't up to the Championship?

The fact CMS cost £2.5m and has scored 11 goals is totally irrelevant to me. Maybe we need a different type of striker to play with him, but that doesn't mean Glenn Murray is anything other than a third division striker who had one reasonably decent season mainly because he was playing in an incredible team that used to carve teams open and create about 40 chances in every home match. The odd crafty touch that bamboozles some lummox from Tranmere or Yeovil does not score goals against Southampon, West Ham and Birmingham on a weekly basis. I don't rate Vokes as a top striker, but even he is better in that role than Murray in my opinion.

I think, in Vokes we've finally filled 'the gap' I'm referring to. The player who can score goals and bring others into the game.
Fair enough, Murray's done basically bugger all at Palace, suggesting he's not up to it in this league. But if Barnes can score goals in this team, then I'm pretty sure Murray would have done.

Maybe. maybe not.... but was cannot be disputed is that he chose to go rather than stay.....

Agree with this, plus people talk about the fee as if we have thrown it. We do still have a player on a contract who, if he didn't work out there would still be a fee to us if selling him on.
I don't even know or care about the wages either player is on - if comparing the two, Murray is a surly, dour personality who is somewhat difficult. Would we need that in the nice shiny new dressing room that much for the half-as-many goals as CMS that he's scored in this division (so far)?
Mackail-Smith is known to be highly regarded as a person, a model professional who works tirelessly on and off the pitch, and an example to young lads aspiring to wear the 1st-team shirt sooner or later.

Our support always held a high regard for Gary Hart, and we have a player with a similar professional attitude out there playing for us, instead of couldn't-care-less character who wouldn't even acknowledge the fans.
I cannot believe or understand why ANYONE would long to have seen GM stay instead of CMS joining.

Silly old bat
So much he tried to get away using his partner being homesick as an excuse and engineered a move to our biggest rivals for the signing on fee he extorted from palarse. He loved us so much he wanted a bigger pay packet than the Board would pay.
He loved us enough not to re-sign for us.

f*** off Murray and get your arse out of our town.

A bit of rewriting of history there, with his ex partner who did indeed return north with his child and his present partner who is a Brighton girl and the reason that he lives near Preston Park but plays for a team nearby.

The gloating from their fans when they "nicked" him from us is now priceless. Even though he went on a free transfer.

True, and I have to say that I felt it was even more uncomfortable that Garvan (or whatever his name is) showed some loyalty to his club and chose to fight for his place in the Palace side

I would have him back only on a free and with the conditions we originally offered. He would also have to spend a month in quarantine and expect to be part of the rotating team bench reserves. All this without sulking is never going to happen. I think he would have been awesome with cms.

So I'm Glad he is making the palace fans suffer.... It was his choice and it was predictable.... Simple...Gus got the best out of Murray. Gus is now working on cms hopefully it will all work out for him too. If CMS lacks trust I suspect he will also go. Either you are brilliant, lucky you immediately fit in with new team or you need to work it through.

Both Murray and cms need to work it through or this scenario will repeat itself for them.

Lucky for cms I think he has a great manger that can turn this around.

1. I think Gus got it right with Glenn in terms of letting him go.
2. If you think ANY player loves you you are delusional. Player of the year Elliott Bennett stuck in a transfer request 8 weeks after signing a new contract last January, he did it for his own self interest, just like any player would. Wayne Rooney stuck in a transfer request and was off to City not for love, but for an extra £70k a week.

I believe Murray was told that he'd have to fight for his place just as it should be, and this was after the agreement that if he scored 20+ goals last season his contract would be renewed.
It has been said that Murray is "difficult", and his response showed him to be a prima-donna who believes he's the centre of attention and should call the shots.

That palace were silly enough to get involved was their lookout, but Murray had his head turned easily, and after using the politics to push for more money (like you do), he snapped up palace's offer. They were happy to get him off a 'renewed' rival and score brownie points with the fans, and on a 'free'.
Loyalty was zero, clearly. He was down South as a Northern lad and who cared which club shirt he wore. He probably saw Gus as a fairly uncompromising manager who wasn't going to bow to anyone based on their ego, and that he would indeed need to keep earning his stripes (so as to speak) to stay in contention in the first team.

He earned his right to contract talks, and palace jockeyed to pay his higher wage demands. They both somewhat mugged themselves!
I'd have to call this a bit of a result - karma if y' like.

I will predict that if palace have an iota of sense they'll try and recoup something by selling him to a Carlisle or Hartlepool or some League 1 club who might look at his record in that level and see it as a good punt. He'd do well to take that up too, but with an instant percentage of the signing fee, accept a lowered wage in accordance.
I doubt he'll make enough to retire early, but if he's set himself up and got a house and car all paid off, and enough to invest in a new business - then perhaps he can be fairly comfortable in the next 2/3rds of his working life.

For us, it all worked out okay and he helped us enormously in our promotion as Champions - but let's not forget Ashley Barnes who continues to work hard and score regularly even in this league! Our fans really ought to get behind him and support that guy now, we can't complain about Murray's LACK of loyalty and then be moaning at Barnes all the bloody time while he stands by us and keeps tucking them in.

He didn't need to because Man Utd caved and gave him the extra cash, which we didn't do with Murray.
