The Astral Planes, man...
Another silly and extreme interpretation of what has been said, unless it is tongue in cheek.

My point is that the law should be equally applied, it should not be swayed by those that shout the loudest. Giving people the chance to play the 'phobia' or 'ist' card without any evidence will automatically put their opponents on an unequal footing. In the interview Milliband talks about strengthening the hate crime laws, presumably making it more difficult for people to express their opinions.

I haven't seen the full text of the interview, although the report is interesting. Hamed Chapman points out Milliband's inability to differentiate between religiously and politically motivated terrorism, a serious point in my mind. Groups like IS should primarily be seen as politically motivated.

Enlighten us with your incisive logic, exactly what are the political aims of IS?

I can think of one, and it's not political............

So 'din' = oh dear dunce.

Thanks for clarifying as I assumed you meant a person who espoused the beliefs and/or obligations of Islam and was about to call Mr Miliband. Carry on.

These Are The People Funding UKIP’s Election Campaign
Nigel Farage’s party is surging ahead in the polls thanks to a more professional campaign. The money to help them is coming from the City and property developers.
Figures released on Thursday morning by the Electoral Commission show that the total sum of donations received by the Eurosceptic party hit £493,000 in the first three months of 2014, a up from £270,000 received in the final three months of 2013.

These were UKIP’s biggest donors between January and March, along with the amount they donated. They are the ones digging deep to fund the party’s surge.
Stuart Wheeler, spread betting tycoon, donated £185,000 to UKIP.
Upmarket London property developer Mura Estates donated £65,000 to UKIP.
Growth Financial Services Limited, connected to hedge fund boss Christopher Mills, donated £50,000 to UKIP.
Robin Birley, club owner and Zac Goldsmith’s half-brother, gave £50,000 to UKIP.

Now look at this report which shows how much the parties got in donations. The Ukip donations seem to tally up with the figures above.

In other words a right wing party bankrolled by big business and still pretending to be the voice of the people.

I think Dandyman expects UKIP can mount a campaign with no backers. These are people that want to back UKIP, unlike many Union members that pay their subs and do not agree with cash being given to Labour......as stated the Unions are Labours biggest contributors, but that ok eh.

I had a text from my union this week more or less instructing me to vote Labour. Very bullish.

these threads always make me grin......posters from the cultural melting pots of Sussex espousing tolerance to all comers .........a few weeks in places like Luton , Blackburn , Coventry , Leicester or the East end of London would do a few of you some good and perhaps alter your perceptions about which direction the country is heading.

6 days to go until UKIP. Until UKIP what?

I should imagine 6 days to go until UKIP are confirmed along with the greens, due to voting numbers as major players in general election thinking as opposed to sideline acts in protest european and council elections.Number of seats are not important, voting numbers are for the parties outside the main two.

Im sure it annoys the hell out of a stuck in the mud 60 year old socialist like you but why not move with the times Dave,The old party system is dead and those parties on the fringe like UKIP and Greens are directly influencing the policy of the major 2 players. You obviously hate this but i get the feeling socialist dinosaurs like you have had their day anyway and no one really gives a crap anymore how miffed people like you might be feeling.

Who needs a raft of seats when the main 2 parties will change their policies anyway to counter the new political threat........job done by stealth!

I spent 10 years in Luton that experience showed me where it has all gone wrong.

But the law exists already for religiously aggravated hate crime. Im not entirely sure what Milliband is proposing to be honest, its incredibly vague, and why privilege religion in hate crimes?

I wonder if this is just another case of him opening his mouth without thinking about the fine detail to win some votes

I agree, but at the same time I think it would be true to say that Islamophobia is a particular problem. Nobody has felt the need to coin the word Sikhophobia yet.

I'm not disagreeing. I would just hope we should be able to have confidence that any new (or existing) laws are applied sensibly.
