Every Pompey fan I speak to says the same thing, Matt Clarke is better the Adam Webster, if they weren't all #twats I might believe them.
Exactly how good is this lad???

I'd say it's quite hard for a Pompey fan to judge. Their defenders aren't trying to stop Mane and Vardy every week.

I'd prefer to take the view of Ashworth and Potter who have decided that another year in the Championship is the level he currently needs in order for him to improve.

Really like the look of Clarke however get the feeling he is going to find himself in a Steve Cook situation here where we have more talent than slots available

The Sheffield Star are reporting that Matt Clarke is a possible transfer target for Sheffield United.
The article seems to be written as though they are thinking of a purchase rather than a loan.

Wouldnt be surprised.

From what I've seen he is a very decent Championship defender but just not the required level. I would pick Dunk, White, Webster, Burn, Veltman, Duffy and Östigård ahead of him and think Van Hecke got more potential as well.

Being the best player in this quite shite Derby team should however probably mean a small profit if he was sold to Sheffield.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Agreed.

I read somewhere that Derby fans think he is decent but too slow to make it as a Premier League CB.

Possibly me! Great in the air, very good on the ball, like him. Two downsides for me, pace and positioning and those 2 together aren't a good mix. Generally about 5th in POTY votes in a crap team last season tells you a story. I'd definitely have him back but I don't think he'll be a PL player.

Trust your judgement on this. Van Hecke, Dendoncker, Roberts or Ostigard for 1st team for me.

Wasn’t he player of the season for you the year before in what was arguably a better Derby team ?

Van Hecke and Roberts need Championship loans to se if they look likely to step up - Clarke would definately be way more PL ready than them at the moment. Don't see Dendoncker moving straight from the U23s to the PL - another loan requred there! Ostigard - very ambitious. I get the feelimg that if we don't offer him at least a hope of first team football, he'll be offski - so, will we?

I expect Sheff Utd to have a great chance of bouncing straight back to the Prem so if they buy Clarke you assume they think he could be good enough to play at that level.

If we can get a good profit and a % sell on then I’d sell. Could be borderline Prem player but we are blessed with so much depth at the position including players with similar potential who suit style better. Steve Cook mk2 agreed and hope he makes it somewhere without quite being Dunk/Webster/White level.

He was one of them, yes! Don't get me wrong, he's highly thought of by many and I'd welcome him back BUT I think his popularity is born of being 'heroic' - A rolls royce defender he is not, last ditch tackles, blocks and sticking his head on the ball he is.....

We already have one of those,... Dunk specialises in getting stuck in, but is rarely seen as a cultured ball player.

Speaking to a Derby fan the other day who said pretty much what others are saying, said he had been one of their better players but not sure he is good enough for the premier league.

Good luck to him if he moves on, which it sounds like he may have to.

Derby only have 4 players, so guess he'll be back :)
