Not to mention the teachers and teaching assistants who seem to be forgotten about in the schools debate!

I'm good friends with someone whose partner is a teacher. She told me they have NO SOAP in the school.

The argument I’ve seen with schools that baffles me is that if we close them kids will be stuck at home with parents/grandparents and may pass it onto them.

Do they not otherwise spend time with their parents/grandparents?

I think the real issue is grandparents. If kids are off school then parents may not want to take prolonged time off to look after them, (money, lack of leave etc). Grandparents who may not be working then take on childcare responsibilities opening themselves up to greater risk than otherwise. Of course kids do interact with grandparents anyway, but maybe this needs to be minimised right now?

I think tonight I realised that this is going to be a lot worse than I imagined, and I already thought it was going to be really bad. A complete nightmare. Only a few days ago was it still not futile talking about Premier League. Its crazy. Difficult to grasp.

The last "its just a flu" person goes extinct this week.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but all this is bringing back memories of the 70's TV show Survivors. Which when I just looked it up I see has had a remake or as they are saying a "remodelling". I remember the opening titles and the focus on international travel.

It's just flu. Everything else you are hearing is just a conspiracy.

Coronavirus / Covid-19

Mayor of New York has said that all bars have to close on Tuesday. Restaurants will only be allowed to deliver or provide a collection service. Cinemas and concert venues will probably follow.

It’s fascinating that Mayors have that power in the U.S.

Their closing schools too but I wonder if they’ve seen the Austrian ‘partial’ model where, essentially, if the parents work in healthcare etc, the school remains open for their kids.

Our government’s strategy behind keeping schools open is not about protecting the elderly as others have said, it’s about this:

A quick glance at this site details the different strategies across Europe and demonstrates that we are well behind the curve on school closure:

It was on Twitter somewhere, as I said it baffled me.

One of the other reasons that you’ve pointed out is of course not so baffling.

Does make me wonder about Italy/Spain - they must have a similar percentage of parents in their healthcare system?

Cant say on NHS (but it is a very big employer..) but GB has a much higher rate of working mums than those countries (75% i've read) so it will affect us much more.

Japan reportedly lost IRO 20% of it's work force when the schools shut. (cant find the report on that to corroborate)

You need to update the logo, Bozza. A new name and maybe some hazard tape.

They will in this country to. We have neighbors on one side who are totally selfish and inconsiderate, they are the epitome of I'm alright jack and couldnt give a shit about late night noise or their impact, you then look at the similar behaviour going on in supermarkets and with the outrageous high price selling of limited goods like sanitizer.

There's far to many people who do not give a shit about anyone other than themselves and won't follow the rules if it doesn't suit them.

I was going to go to the centre to see what the city looks like without tourists but government quarantined us at midnight and police and army enforcing it, luckily somebody managed to get some pictures. Its surreal
