Maybe, but we had LEON then, and he could rap 'em in until MCGOON found a way to STOP him. :shootself

In our best performance in a season since 1991, the poison dwarf contributed a grand total of three goals in open play to that acheivement :dunce: :lolol:

Yeah, that was AWFUL, wasn't it? We shouldn't have even celebrated!

I think we should have just given the promotion to Bristol actually and said to ourselves "better luck next year, Brighton!"

Shame we never got that elusive target man, he is just what we need right now.

The man was a fool. Just like you.

No Magoo was a clown!

Yep, we still need a target man/decent striker! Ravell is spineless/shite!

Nope, Magoo lost my support when he lost the plot!

You are a complete moron. McGhee did do a good job in difficult circumstances or were you calling for him to be sacked after we stayed up against Ipswich.

He tookover a team dropping after Coppell left and without Henderson and Rodger and then took us up and kept us up. Maybe towards the end he lost the plot a bit but he still achieved a lot with the club and selling our best players did not help. Would anyone have given a second thought if Virgo had been let go during the first half of the play off year. Yet we got £1.5 million for him in the end.

Wilkins is doing a good job but I bet you were one of the people having a go at him after Blackpool. I was just gutted that we were doing so poorly and am really pleased that we have improved. Unlike some people on here I would never want Brighton to lose whoever the manager was.

Why not just accept that McGhee gave us some good times and then lost it a bit, get over your bitterness and get a life!!!

Football is all about bitterness and petty gripes.

Your points are quite reasonable, except I look at this part and wonder. It's always correct to say that *anything* we achieve is "a lot".

Selling our best players = bad
Selling them for big money = good?
NOT if you still want to see decent football for £20+ every home game (a fair ask for your average fan wouldn't you agree?) NOT unless you bank some of the dosh and replace the missing ££player with someone who can do the job and maintain the similar trajectory in the league.

I know, it's all a bit of a moot subject until we get a stadium and stability - but then how do people make these claims?

What if MM had walked in Knight's office on day one and said "I can attain a competitive and entertaining level with this club, keep the fans happy and basically keep a level that you and the supporters have become used to since you took over the club affairs"?
It's not unreasonable to think that the conversation might have gone along those lines.

Some of....no, MANY of the fans think he had failed, and had lost the plot on how to succeed in getting the above fulfilled. I wouldn't be shocked if DK thought this too.

I think this is only corroborating your opinion Finchley Seagull, but it might also outline the reasons why people feel strongly. MM drew a hard line with players, and was single-minded with tactics (imo, this can be a.k.a. stuck for ideas).

1. He threw players off the bus, and aired his personal foibles about them in public.
2. The public air their views, and he got thrown off the bus.

That all seems very fair!

It needs to be pointed out to people that they were wrong. People learn from their mistakes. I'm educating people. You'll all be grateful of me.

we win 3-0 nil. we've got a great young squad, we've got a plush 3rd round tie etc etc. that's today, mcghee was yesterday. wilkins is our manager, i'm happy with him, he's albion through and through.... i'd rather talk about today and the future than a manager who was fairly average, did an ok job, didn't desert for a bigger club, but had a problem with falling out with players. end of.

I agree that football is all about bitterness and it would be boring if we all had the same opinions. However, it amuses me that you did not post this after we lost to Tranmere and Doncaster. Are you going to do the same thing after every win we have this season?

I agree with a lot of what you are saying and maybe McGhee's time had come in hindsight, although at the time I thought sacking him was a mistake. What really annoys me is when people claim he was completely useless and achieved nothing which is also completely wrong.

With regard to selling Virgo, I am sure McGhee would rather have kept him but the situation we are in means we cannot turn down £1.5 million for a player. As much as Virgs was brilliant for us during the last year and a half, he was not worth £1.5 million and we did well to get that. Personally, I think McGhee's biggest mistake was keeping us up first season. If we had lost to Ipswich and gone back down he could have rebuilt without the fan pressure he had at the start of this season and may have done better.

Anyway, I agree that it is in the past and it is best left there. We need to look forward and not worry about Mark McGhee but if people bring it up others will respond!
