please merge with allready open thread also this thread title is incorrect he was not sacked he left
. He never was a great manager ever. He rode his luck with a squad built by his predecessor the first time he was Liverpool manager
Seriously. Imagine that sitting on a park bench with a bottle of Buckfast in hand, shouting at pigeons.
the shit players he chose to sign, let him down.
Apparently, Downing's claiming his first assist of the season!
The man who brought Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge together, and blended them into the flairniac 1987/88 side, must have had something about him.
I take it I'm the only one who thinks this was a harsh sacking.
I know they didn't do too great in the league and should've finished at least in the top 6 but they got to 2 cup finals and won a trophy and were very unlucky in the F.A Cup final, I think he'd have done a much better job next season but football is a funny game.
Football's moved on since the 1987 season someone mentioned above. Unfortunately for him and Liverpool, I don't think Kenny Dalglish has, except in terms of the amount of money he can piss up the wall.
If Gus goes King Kenny will be a contender to take over here. who ever gets the Liverpool job won't do any better as they haven't got the money to compete with Chelsea, Man City, Man United, Spurs or Arsenal.
Eighth in the league, won the Carling Cup, were F A cup finalists and stuffed B & HA all in one season.... and that gets a manager sacked !
Who do they think they are? Barcelona? Manchester City? Owners need to realise that building a team takes time.
