It would be sad to lose them though as it's nice to have someone to look down on. It would also put the matter of Andy Murray to bed once and for all...and wouldn't it be nice to have passport control on the border to keep them out ?

Leaving aside the sheer stupidity of this - do you really think that Scotland alone delivers a Labour govt? - I can assure you that you are nowhere nearly as fed up as the Scots are with England giving them a Tory govt. Indeed, the Tories are the main reason why most Independence supporters feel the way they do.

I fear that you are ignorant of Scottish politics. There won't be a president of Scotland during Alex Salmond's political career even if he delivers independence next year! To prevent a hugely damaging split in the party they don't even talk about republicanism and monarchy. A newly-independent Scotland will have a monarch and a first minster, just as it does now.

thats what the jocks cannot afford to risk. a close enough local vote to secure constant patronising from London and safety net guaranteed tax raising powers to massage egos and appeal to the scotsmans primary concern, never having to put his hand in his pocket if someone else will, will suit everyone north of the border fine.

they have whinged and pissed off the English so much a UK wide vote would ensure independence by a landslide. then they really would have something to moan about the English for.

How did you work that out, you haven't been listening to that wanker Salmond have you? The oil really belongs to the whole of the UK, including Wales and Northern Ireland as much as England and Scotland. We were united when we found it, the closest town/nation/whatever can't suddenly ask for independance and claim it, otherwise the Orkney and Shetland islands might as well claim independance, along with Aberdeen, and they could have the lot.

Personally I like Scotland and the Scots, especially as every time I go up there to work offshore I'm earning £600 per day.

However I also like other bits of the European Union I visit such as Greece, Italy and Portugal, but as far as I can see, they don't have any MPs in Westminster deciding what I can and cannot do and specifically spending my taxes on their country.


So as I said in my previous posting, nice to have known you, please feel free to go off & try your Celtic Socialist Dream, but not using any of my money.

"Oilfields" which are in Scottish waters. producing £billions to the economy of the UK, however if you read on from that comment, I myself as a Jocko am forever arguing with my family in Scotland about their free lunch. Indeed why should they get free care for the elderly (which I do believe in and definitely a system our MP's in England on behalf of our OAP's nationwide should have debated, approved and written in the Government's statute book long before now) I could address the other two issues you have raised but for fear of being called a racist by the NSC Police, will keep my own Counsel on this one. Mr Salmond (SNP) is the problem beware as he is absolutely so Anti-The Union, he is embarrassing

having lived in Wales for 8 years and listened to the Welsh snipe at, continually compare with and support anything that is NOT English we have come to the conclusion that most are anti union and in that 8 years the copying of the English model has shifted to copying the Scottish one, with the ultimate goal of becoming independent.
Even going as far as having a language all of their own, this would be absolute stupidity as they have no industry to speak of and a little tourism which they don't make the most of ....unlike Scotland who have some industry and great tourism base.
I don't disagree with most you have said other than surely the oil fields would be in British waters off Scotland.
We did at one time consider living in Scotland (close to the Murray firth) for its wildlife and there are times I wish we had taken the plunge and moved there .............but hey we all make the wrong choices in life once in a while.

There never was a Canadian crown. There was a Scottish crown and an English crown and they became united when James VI became James I as well.

What would we call the rump nation of England, Wales and Northern Ireland? Mentioning the monarchy in the name of the nation would surely be inappropriate?

This is a commonly propogated myth, I guarantee you , that under international law the oil is in english waters, the sea borders follow the same angle as the land border, its OURS .
