you hate palace because they play in a higher division than you ,and are a bigger more successful club than your tin pot club. Perhaps there may even be a bit of jealousy involved .
i hate palace, and so does my 6 year old - whenever he sees anything with red/blue stripes on it he has an uncontrollable urge to shout at the top of his voice "STAND UP IF YOU HATE PALACE", which was hilarious on the bluebell railway last year when there was a family of the dirty scummers lol

Admit it the desirability if the Croydon area has dwindled during a 20 year demise. Meaning People are prepared to move to the surrounding Brighton area these days before travelling back to Selhurst Park to remind themselves how bad things used to be.
