When we were 12 points adrift at one point, someone at work was gloating about our inevitable relegation. 'Tenner' I said. She wouldn't even take a tenner - pathetic. At that moment I knew we'd stay up. Still, for rock bottom, I give you the first 'home' game at Pissfilled, it was cup game so I presume League cup. Around 1000 supporters, mainly at the Rainham end, with the setting sun in our eyes. It felt like the sun was going down on the club. These bedwetters who think we are in crisis now have been sniffing too much glue during the school holidays . . .

OP is correct. Nothing can compare with the drama of that game. Newcastle for Div 1; Wembley x 2; Cardiff Play Off Final, all never had that tension. Those of us who have come through all this history realise that by comparison we have never had it so good. Mind you have not enjoyed this season so far!

I ought to add to my previous post that, although the end result was amazing, my enjoyment of the day was completely spoilt by the fact that I had to queue to get a pie at half time and that they didn't have any chicken and ham left. And we had to walk about 30 mins to get back to the car. Shocking.

Didn't go to Hereford but thought the end was in sight after I saw us lose 1 nil at Scunny the Saturday after Easter , now that was a day to be despondent.

I was at that one SOG. Very black day with squabbles breaking out between Albion fans in the bogs at half time.:nono:

Listened whilst driving around with my then girlfriend (probably not the best thing to do!) I remember distinctly passing Arundel when the final whistle went and I was in shock that we actually survived.

On another note, anyone remember the (I think) 88/89 season when the first game we won wasn't until October against Leeds at home, we managed to survive that season somehow!

I went with my brother, we couldn't get a ticket for the Brighton end so we blagged a couple of tickets for the Edgar Street Stand.

My memories of the day: A couple of Brighton lads had got into the home end and got a bit of a shoeing prior to kick off, that bull they used to parade around the pitch, Norton's notes (Hereford's captains programe column) saying how they knew they'd win, Agana, Foster and Johnny (flying postman) Williams up front.....I was so tense I'd had a headache for days.

Horrible match which was celebrated without joy, just relief.

I went to that one as well. Had to keep a bit if a low profile before and after. The locals were still a bit touchy about the last match! I think we let them win just to try and cheer them up a bit.

I'll always remember that chance that they had with five minutes to go which was chipped delicately into Ormerods midriff, about the only place he would have saved it. My pants were certainly browning at that point.

at the end of the day it's just 22 men kicking a bag of air around a green patch. I taught myself that a few years ago. I love the Albion, but I don't get upset anymore, just mildly disappointed for a few minutes, then it goes away.

I felt physically sick with nerves because that day we were looking into the abyss from which we may have never emerged. For that reason I always maintain that Robbie's goal was the most important in our history.

The big memory I have was walking from the station to the town centre early in the morning and seeing shop owners boarding up the shop windows whilst police dogs that looked like they had not eaten for a week going mental at anyone walking past. This was at about 9am in the morning! Got into a pub at 10am the otherside of town which was full of Brighton by 10:30 and then locked in by the police whilst around 50 welsh lads massed outside. I later found out they came up from Cardiff and Newport for a day out as I got the train back with them to Newport. One and only time I have seen a refreshment trolley on a train get looted. Scary bunch.

I couldn't go, I couldnt listen to the radio. I was so distracted I laid on my bed in silence until my dear old mum came in and told me the result. I only started following the Albion in 1994 so to go through that pain so early in my Albion career has set in me in pretty good stead for whatever is thrown at me football wise.

Do those of you there remember when the Hereford player looked (from the away end anyway) to be through on goal in the dying minutes and volleyed it straight at Ormerod?

Yes. Yes I do remember that - although I don't remember much about the day as a whole.

4 mins 20 for those that don't - we were that close to going out of the football league

I've come back home.
I did go to the Hereford v Morecambe playoff semifinal in 2006 does that count?

Strangely i met an old Crystal Palace player a few times. He had played at the Goldstone and his son was an unused sub in our Hereford game. In '06 he (the dad) was a taxi driver in Hereford.

Guesses?
