Pat Saward for me. I could almost claim Freddie Goodwin as I saw him bring his newly promoted Birmingham City team to the Goldstone in May 1972 for Geoff Sidebottom’s testimonial, featuring a young Trevor Francis and Bob Latchford.

I'm an odd 24 if counting reappointments. I started under Mullers in 1980 but never saw a Jeff Wood game and also missed Mickey Adams part 2 (thank God) as I was living abroad for all of that part of our managerial history.

Just running through that list and thinking “who were my favourites”? Really hard to decide. Is it based on if I liked their personality (Saward/Goodwin)
nostalgia for childhood (Macauley)
best football (Poyet/deZerbi/Hurzeler).
I discounted “success” as it is ultimately so ephemeral - so often balanced by failure.
In the end I went for Archie Macauley……..the call of lost youth
