Everybody on here with possibly the exception of The Large One and London Irish for obvious reasons, said that getting relegated would cost us in excess of £1m but DK and THE BOARD took no heed and made no apparent effort to ensure our Championship place and as a result we are now deeper in the shit than we were.

I havent got the time to trawl through threads from early 2006 but I am fairly sure that not only did I say we would lose £1m by being relegated but many more posters said the same and both you and LI said that we could not afford to take the chance and speculate on staying up by spending the money.

This isnot havinga poke at you but just pointing out a difference of opinions that we hold.

Much to the annoyance of many on here I am not always wrong.

This argument is rubbish. Your understanding of the financial side is obviously extremely poor. We have lost £1 million in revenue (or so it's been claimed). We will not actually be £1m worse off this year because we will have made savings on the playing budget, due to smaller squad size, relegation clauses and new players contracts at lower rates.

As for Dies Irae well i love that argument. Somehow buying a couple of players would automatically led to us staying up. Well first that is just bollocks, it just doesn't happen like that.

But let's just say we did splash £0.5m on players where would we be.

Well if we'd stayed up we'd be in the championship with a hole in this years budget of £0.5m. If as was still a very real risk we were relegated we'd be in the situation we are now, with an extra £0.5m hole in the budget.

Saying that we would lose £1m going down - was I suspect a bit of Falmer press story as welll - i.e. we need bigger ground etc for more revenue

Believe we lose about £700k of tv money - we will have made large salary savings as loads of senior pros have left and not been replaced i.e. Tuirenzo, Virgo, Harding, Nicolas, Dodd, McGammon, Kinght, CKR, McPhee - plus wage cuts on new contracts for existing players - only new players added apart from youth players are Henderson, Revell and Santos

Crucial to Knight's thinking will have been the fact that Withdean now has 9,000 seats - thus if we can get an average crowd of more than 1,000 above last season - this over another 20 home games at average ticket cost of £20 = £400,000 more revenue

Thus not impossible we could be better off financially this year IF we can get the average crwod up to 7,500 plus

The 700 season tickets not renwed at an average of £400 each will have lost us £280,000 in cashflow that we may / may not get back over the rest of the season

Here we go, Bens Grandad's vivid imagination is on the rampage again, isn't it time they changed your medication ?

Why did Booker have to go to?? He's been good for us hasn't he?

What was even odder was that the one man effectively demoted in the summer shake-up, Dean White, gets promoted again.

has DK not heard of mobile phones? or inviting MM to his palace, to talk things over?

and since when did 25% shareholding(?) give DK the ultimate say over who goes??

After last summer I don't imagine the Bloom family and the rest of the board would have taken much persuading.

He quite possibly was squeezed out by Dean Wilkins promotion, anyway.

Other than Martin Hinshelwood (great job with the youth structure but wasn't the most successful first team manager in the club's long history), Dean White is the only other man left with any senior coaching experience so we didn't have much choice.

The average home attendence pre-McGhee firing will be within 500 of the average post-McGhee firing.

Bookmark this post, and check it come April.

Sorry to bounce this, was a link on the bottom of another thread.

That this was an interesting comment, not wrong at all as it turned out.

5,848 was the attendance for THAT Crewe game, the last Withdean match under McGhee.

4,802 was the attendance of this seasons crewe game.

I make that a 1046 drop.

Nice work, Wilkins:thumbsup:
