I wont be there tonight unfortunately, but I have paid for my ST so at least the club only misses out on a cup of team I would have bought

And you've given your ticket away - so we won't have an empty seat - although I doubt they can match you for sheer singing volume

I think by far the biggest issue (that we can change) is price. Look at the Gillingham sell out, the interest is still there... it's never going to be £10 to get in for every game but more reasonable pricing would bring back at least some of the crowds.

I would certainly be able to go to a lot more if that was done.

f*** me thats an incredible amount of people down, especially considering we had a 300k striker making his home debut.

But that is not taking into account McGhee did managed to scrape us up by the play offs and gave us a two seasons in the Championship before we were then given two years of tripe. So thats where the rot came from. not Wilkins.

Wilkins is in a position where we are trying to turn the tide and get back up again.
As said before next season / season after will be the clincher.

McGhee 'was a broken man'
By Miles Godfrey
Brighton and Hove Albion chairman Dick Knight has told of the moment he looked at Mark McGhee and realised his manager had become a broken man.

Speaking exclusively to The Argus, he revealed: l Dwindling crowds convinced him McGhee no longer had the support of the Seagulls' loyal fans; l He was the sole hatchet man and was not influenced in his decision by pressure from others; l He believed McGhee's continued tenure at the club could even damage its bid for a new stadium at Falmer.

continued...
Describing the Crewe defeat, Knight said: "During that game Mark kind of lost the crowd.

"It was an important factor when I saw fans streaming out long before the end of the game.

"I'm a fan, so I understand how they feel. I can't ignore that."

The crowd for the Crewe match was less than 6,000 and almost 1,000 down on the previous home game against Brentford.

Knight told The Argus: "I supported Mark strongly a few months ago. I stood up and was counted by his side with (chief executive) Martin Perry but the situation has very definitely worsened as far as the fans are concerned and I cannot ignore that.

"There are 40 games to go this season and the momentum of the club is in jeopardy. Everything comes back to the stadium issue. It's even a factor in new players not coming in.

"The momentum of the club is linked to the stadium and we cannot afford to be in the situation where we are playing to rows of empty seats at Withdean.

"What I have to see is progress on the playing side and fans turning up in numbers."

"I have said often enough that we are a community club and I can't stand by when the vast majority of fans withdrew support for him. I had no alternative, given that the fans have voted with their feet."

If you were Dean Wilkins and read these extracts from this report on the sacking of McGhee this morning, would you be slightly concerned about the future in the job? Because I think the fans are voting with their feet again.

Let's hope that ther is no more scapegoating
No money= no players to improve
We have to believe in Falmer pulling us around

In the meantime the Manager's job is just keeping us ticking over

'tis true

I think a lot of fans now have the same mentality as a lot of newcastle fans and think we deserve to be up there, when really where we are is probably about right

So the fact thats we've got 6 home games in the 4 and a bit weeks of the year when the weather is at it's worst and most people are still recovering from the financial asault that is Christmas have nothing to do with it?

the shock that that original article portrayes over the crowds dropping to under 6000 seems quite ridiculous now

Will Dick be using these words again soon?
Crowds still dropping.

Any manager that brought a bit of stability and mid-table mediocrity to the Albion was going to watch the crowds drop, A lot of fans wanted it but get bored when it's here.

If you remember at a fans forum Dick Knight stated that he would be happy with mid table mediocrity, but MM replied that he wouldn't. Well DK was getting what he wanted at the time, but still sacked MM because and I quote "I have said often enough that we are a community club and I can't stand by when the vast majority of fans withdrew support for him. I had no alternative, given that the fans have voted with their feet." So he sacked him.
Are the fans currently voting with their feet now or not?

I am not one who wants Wilkins sacked, I think he is doing a good job in the circumstances.
But I do fear that he will suffer the same fate if this continues, because it is the manager that carries the can for board decisions that he has no control over.
For example, MM wanted to keep both Currie and Virgo. Wilkins wanted to keep both Savage and Hammond. The result is the same, the team performances begin to drop.
