If an HP laptop has no sound after a driver update, the issue is likely with the audio driver. Try rolling back the driver to a previous version, updating the driver to the latest version, or uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.
Troubleshooting Steps:
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem, and contacting HP Support for further assistance may be necessary.
- 1. Roll back the audio driver:
- Open Device Manager (search for it in Windows).
- Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
- Right-click your audio device and select "Properties".
- Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Roll Back Driver".
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- 2. Update the audio driver:
- If rolling back doesn't work, try updating the driver.
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select "Update Driver".
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".
- If a new driver is found, install it.
- 3. Uninstall and reinstall the audio driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select "Uninstall device".
- Check the box "Delete the driver software for this device" and click "Uninstall".
- Restart your computer.
- Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
- 4. Check Device Manager for errors:
- In Device Manager, look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark, which indicates a problem.
- If you see one, right-click it and select "Update Driver" or "Properties" to troubleshoot.
- 5. Run the audio troubleshooter:
- Search for "Troubleshoot" in Windows and open it.
- Select "Additional troubleshooters".
- Run the "Playing audio" troubleshooter.
- 6. Check volume and connections:
- Make sure the volume is turned up and not muted.
- Check the connections of any external speakers or headphones.
- 7. Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Sometimes, Microsoft releases updates that can fix audio problems.
