Ashley Cole personifies that comment.

I will personally shout "****" at the twat if I ever see him out on the town, he's a disgrace to the country and is not worthy of the 3 Lions. Wayne Bridge is back in the Chelsea team and that's who should be playing for England, Wenger must be pissing himself.

He would enjoy it more if you sent him a TEXT:jester:

Can I add to the above player analysis

Gerrard: Show Pony
Terry: Terry Butcher, and he was good in the air but slow too.
Rooney: World Class strikers do NOT go nearly 3 years without a competitive goal for their countries. Emperor's new clothes on this SCALLY.
Crouch: FREAK

Thats possibly the most nonsensical post in the history of NSC.

The FA chose not to interview Hiddink then, and rejected O'Neill? How does that support your point that it had to be an Englishman? That makes no sense whatsoever. They CHOSE to reject an Irishman and CHOSE to reject a Dutchman, to appoint an Englishman.

There were still other non-English candidates available anyway, like Capello as mentioned earlier.....

All of this is besides the point anyway. My point was that all the people (and there were many of them on here) who said the next England manager must be ENGLISH (long before anyone was even interviewed for the job) have been CATEGORICALLY proven wrong. Do you disagree with that?

They had a shortlist which included several Englishmen and 2 foreigners. Hiddink f***ed off from a life of cheap Shiraz and sunshine as soon as an oligarch flashed him some cash. O'Neil had an interview and wasn't chosen. Scolari was so desparate to take the job that he publicly sent the FA packing on the next flight. Really wanted the job didn't he.

That there should have been more people on the shortlist including non-Englishmen is a moot point - you could name just about anyone from Wenger to McGhee to back up that argument.

And no - the decision has not been CATEGORICALLY proven wrong at all. McLaren's lost one game and conceeded 2 goals (one of them a comedy classic that could have happened to any coach). By your logic we would have dismissed McGhee and Wilkins about 5 years ago and now been on our 127th coach since moving to Withdean.

The gutter press led all of the anti-Sven bollocks then f***ed up the appointment of his successor.

If you were a quality, proven manager-would you want the England job knowing the type of backing you'd get from The Scum, Mirror, Express et al?

And here's the greatest irony of all on this thread. Tomorrow morning The Sun will be calling for McLaren's head whilst juxstposing it with a garden vegetable, thereby agreeing with Chesney there.

You have to love irony.

Sven was crap. End of. But it DOESN'T mean we should have appointed an English manager. There were plenty of excellent foreign managers.....

AND Mr McGhee is available.

I don't dispute the fact that O'Neill wanted the job or that he's a better manager. I'd have LOVED him to get the job.

What I'm disputing is that he turned up at to an interview and Barwick said something along the lines of 'great CV Paddy - unfortunatley given that you're a bogtrotter and both NSC and The Sun say we need an Englishman you're out'.

It's that sort of lazy p.c. conspiracy theory that stokes the fires of real bigots.

Sorry Easy but your wrong there.

I wasn't a Sven fan but we CRUISED through all of his Qualirying campaigns.

We wouldn't have lost this game with him in charge.

It was his inability to influence games in Knock out football that was so poor.

Stop panicking - we'll still Qualify. Big groups, lots of teams to play each other and points to be dropped.

What's happened tonight in no way suddenly makes Sven a hero. His failure was to underachieve this summer with a good group of players many of whom were in top form with their clubs.

The criticism from people like Easy was that he was abjectly failing to get the best out of these players. They were shown, ultimately, to be right.

The early defences of Eriksson, not least from me, were that at least he got us to tournaments. I'm still grateful for that, but this last World Cup we needed to see more than that.

There were so many things wrong tonight. The team and formation McClaren sent out made him look just what he is/was. About fifth choice for the gig.

Sven made an entire England career out of the 5-1 in Munich. Show me ONE OTHER MATCH during his qualification reign that was as tricky as Croatia away.

Sven could organise a team to beat the SHIT, but the recurring theme was his complete inability to overcome anyone even half decent.

Well we had Turkey in one qualifying group, and at the time, going to Istanbul was a much harder task than going to Zagreb is now.

Nothing to do with Sven, that's been England's problem for years and years.

Overrated rubbish.
Just cos they got to the World Cup semi's in 2002 (beating the "combined might" of Costa Rica, China, Japan and Senegal on the way before coming unstuck against Brazil), Turkey were suddenly considered a "good team".

Bollocks. They were always shite. Turkey is always a HOSTILE place to go, but the team is still shit. They failed to qualify for 2004 and 2006. Says it all. Lets not dress up a 0-0 in Turkey as some heroic result for Sven. It was the LEAST we should expect (and if Beckham wasn't so shit from the spot, we'd have put them away anyway).

Croatia would rape Turkey any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

Indeed, but don't forget:

Frank Lampard: Flat-track bully currently out of whatever international form he ever had

Rio Ferdinand: Has an oft-quoted ability to take the ball out of defense - no-one has actually seen it. Has the concentration level of a confused fish.

Michael Carrick: Good Spurs player, shit ManU player, woeful International. Found his standard and decided to swim out of his depth
