Here there and everywhere
The FA should have given it to O'neill end of. Mclaren looks clueless at international level. I still think we will qualify from the group, But If we play like that agaist Russia then ill worry. I wold have fancied us to have taken at least four points from those 2 games under Sven. We may not have been good enough but we were winning most of the time while he was here. (although not convincingly).

I Agree with danny seagull on this one, Id rather have Sven than Mclaren. We miss Beckham.

Have to admit I applauded McClaren's decision to drop him but how useful would his big game experience and above all, SET PIECES have been tonight? We just never looked like scoring.

Hiddink, Capello and O'Neill were the three outstanding candidates and what did the FA do? f*** them around. Fools :nono:

Oh f*** off you self-righteous twat. Most people backed Sven until he proved once and for all he was shit. And McClaren was no-one's first choice, including the FA's. So you're ignorant AND ill-informed. Congratulations.

Public pressure forced the FA into appointing an Englishman, I genuinely believe that. And did I say I would have kept Sven as manager......?

I was having a conversation about Beckham with a mate before the game. Where he was worth his weight in gold is in the games where we haven't played well (ie quite a few). He made the difference to the result with one decent free-kick or cross.

Now, we should be better than having to rely on that, and I'm sure McClaren does not want to have to go back on his big decision. But if it carries on like this, he may have to.

You could certainly argue that the two results might have been different if Beckham had have been on the field. His contributions may have been infrequent, but they were telling.

Exactly. Remember the Trinidad & Tobago game? We were struggling until his pinpoint cross onto Crouch's head saved the day. And of course, he won the day against Ecuador again when like tonight, none of the other overpaid muppets out there looked like scoring.

I really, really am f***ed off with McClaren tonight. Just f*** off you utter utter nob-end.

All those small-minded xenophobic little englander racist bigots who wanted McClaren appointed because of what it said on his passport, I hope you're proud of yourselves.

We could have got Martin O'Neill, Scolari, Guus Hiddink......... but no, we got Steve McClaren because of the ridiculous public clamouring for an English England manager. f***ing IDIOTS.

:(

What a load of old bollocks. O'Neill was rejected at interview and no-one on this board knows why. The FA cocked up Scolari and Hiddink f***ed off for a big fat huge cheque. Just what you want in charge I'm sure.

That left only Englishmen on the short list.

Should never of been given the job, he didn't exactly achieve much with Middlesbrough.

Allardyce would of been my choice.

Not sure about Sam but at least his team would have been organised and motivated.

McLaren couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery-or maybe he could.......

Oh for f*** sake.

WHY?

Because he has produced results for years at Bolton with a very limit budget. The club has improved amazingly since he's been there, he brings the best out of players and motivates players to acheive even more than they already have. Players dont go to Bolton for an easy pay cheque cause they know they wont get one take Campo, Speed, Djorkaeef (SP?) as examples. He can motivate players and get the best out of them something that I have never witnessed McClaren do.

Thats possibly the most nonsensical post in the history of NSC.

The FA chose not to interview Hiddink then, and rejected O'Neill? How does that support your point that it had to be an Englishman? That makes no sense whatsoever. They CHOSE to reject an Irishman and CHOSE to reject a Dutchman, to appoint an Englishman.

There were still other non-English candidates available anyway, like Capello as mentioned earlier.....

All of this is besides the point anyway. My point was that all the people (and there were many of them on here) who said the next England manager must be ENGLISH (long before anyone was even interviewed for the job) have been CATEGORICALLY proven wrong. Do you disagree with that?

Didn't they try to get Scolari and make a total hash of it? Or did I just dream that?

I think you need to be very careful in calling people who would prefer an Englishman to manage England "small-minded, racist bigots."

For my money, it makes it much more interesting for international managers to manage their country of origin - the concept that what you have on the pitch and what you have in the dugout is the best your country has at that time.

I've got nothing against foreign managers per se and think people like Wenger have done a fantastic job for football in this country but if we're going to scour the globe for the best manager then we may as well do it with players too.

The point of international football is, in theory, to pit the best of a nation against the best of another nation, I don't think that happens when you appoint from another country.

To that end, perhaps MacLaren is the best we can produce at the moment. Tough shit.
